So why don't we invest more in journalism and work toward its growth????
This is the question I am deeply reflecting to, moments before and after today's SPC at DepEd San Roque NHS- Antipolo City.
I think we can all agree, that
Bakit? Nowadays, information is everywhere. A single post can reach thousands of people in seconds. Pero in midst of this, one thing should never be compromised, that is what is the truth!
Fake news, manipulated narratives, misleading headlines, and information taken out of context have made it increasingly difficult for ordinary people to distinguish facts from mere propaganda. Ang masama nito ay lies now become easier to spread than the truth. In that sense, democracy itself becomes vulnerable.
Good and ACTUAL journalism does more than report what happened. It asks questions. It verifies facts. It gives context. It holds people in power accountable. Most importantly, it gives citizens the information they need to make informed decisions about their communities, their leaders, and their future.
So, I think you and me can agree din na it is not absurd to derive that
The experience I had today reminded me why journalism deserves not only our support, but our investment. Seeing young students write, ask questions, investigate, and tell stories made me wonder:
What if journalism for the youth does not end inside the four walls of a classroom?
What if we give young people more spaces to practice journalism? Yung hindi lang as students, but as young citizens themselves who have a voice in the communities they belong to
What if we have an
A platform where the youth do not simply report school activities, but investigate community concerns, document the realities of their barangays, ask questions of their leaders, and tell the stories that matter to their generation.
Because journalism should be more than a school activity or contest (I am not saying it is)
So, in a time like this: when fake news, misinformation, manipulated narratives, and propaganda can spread faster than facts, journalism has never been more important.
KAILANGAN NATIN ANG KAPANGYARIHAN AT BOSES NG KABATAAN who know how to distinguish information from misinformation, opinion from fact, and a viral post from a verified story.
Good governance requires informed citizens. Its prerequisite traits: TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY, require citizens who are willing to ask questions.
P.S. Salamat pala Jhn Rnln Canela sa pagsalo sakin sa opening program dahil may mga tinapos pa akong prior commitment bago makapunta
