CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal โ€” Troops of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division captured an NPA arms cache following information from concerned citizens in General Nakar, Quezon on Friday, May 8.

According to reports from the 202nd Infantry (Unifier) Brigade, soldiers from the 80th Infantry (Steadfast) Battalion conducted focused military operations at Sitio Madaraki in Barangay Umiray following information provided by residents regarding the location of war materiel hidden by the armed group in their community.

Recovered items from the site included one FN FAL caliber .30 rifle, one caliber .45 pistol and one improvised shotgun.

The 202nd Infantry โ€œUnifierโ€ Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ernest John C. Jadloc, said that the successful recovery of the fi****ms highlights the importance of cooperation from local communities in preventing armed groups from regaining their capabilities.

โ€œThese recovered weapons could have been used for violence, intimidation, or other unlawful activities. Their recovery is an important step in preventing the armed groups to threaten communities,โ€ Brig. Gen. Jadloc said.

He added that sustained coordination between security forces and residents remains essential in preventing armed groups from rebuilding influence in remote communities.

Meanwhile, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division Commander, Major General Ramon P. Zagala, emphasized that the development reflects the trust and confidence of the public in the Philippine Army.

โ€œThis accomplishment shows that our communities are increasingly rejecting the presence of armed groups and are choosing to work with authorities in protecting peace and security,โ€ Major General Zagala said.

He also encouraged the public to continue supporting peace and security efforts by remaining vigilant and cooperating with authorities.

The 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division reiterated its commitment to sustained security operations and community engagement efforts in support of lasting peace and stability in Southern Tagalog.

UPLB ROTC unit returns to the field for RAATI 2026

The UPLB Reserve Officersโ€™ Training Corps (ROTC) Unit once again marched into the field for the 2026 Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI), showcasing the discipline, skills, and readiness honed through a year of rigorous training.

RAATI is an annual evaluation conducted by the Reserve Command of the Philippine Army to assess the performance and readiness of ROTC units from various colleges and universities across the region. More than a measure of competence, RAATI instills in cadets the value of โ€œesprit de corps,โ€ emphasizing unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility in accomplishing any given task.

The program formally commenced on April 25, 2026, at the UPLB Freedom Park Upper Grounds. The arrival honors were rendered by the UPLB ROTC Unit to the RAATI Team, which was led by RAATI Chairman Col. Virgilio C. Hamos, Jr. GSC (INF) PA, assistant division commander for Retiree and Reservist Affairs.

1st Lt. Edwin B. Rala PA (RES), assistant commandant of the UPLB ROTC Unit, delivered the welcoming remarks, setting the tone for a meaningful exchange grounded in service and commitment. He extended his congratulations to the cadets, noting that the activity was a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Subsequently, Col. Alexander M. Arbolado (INF) MNSA PA, commandant and head of the UPLB Department of Military Science and Tactics, formally turned over the unit flag to Hamos, symbolizing the latterโ€™s assumption of command for the inspection of the unit.

Dr. Charina Gracia B. Banaay, director of the UPLB National Service Training Program Office, also graced the event and addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking in shaping competent and responsible cadets.

As a culmination of their full year of training, the UPLB cadets underwent a comprehensive evaluation covering the ceremonial parade and fundamental military stakes, including company drills, rank inspection, first aid/basic life support, weapons handling, map reading, knot tying, small unit tactics, and a comprehensive examination.

The UPLB ROTC unit emerged with an overall rating of 91.96%, as announced by RAATI Vice Chairman Col. Neil Armstrong Batayola GSC (INF) PA, assistant chief of staff for Education and Training. This yearโ€™s score marks an improvement from last yearโ€™s rating of 89.73%, underscoring the Unitโ€™s sustained commitment to continuous growth and its enduring pursuit of honor, excellence, and service.
