Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue and Workshop on the Mussel Industry in Capiz | August 20, 2026

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) – Capiz, in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), conducted a Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue and Workshop on the Mussel Industry in Capiz.

The activity featured a presentation by Harold M. Monteclaro, PhD, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UPV, who discussed the black mussel (Mytella), including its occurrence and the importance of initiating the collection of production data to better understand and strengthen the mussel industry in Capiz.

A workshop was also conducted to gather valuable information and insights on the occurrence, production, and status of tahong and black shells in the province.

The activity brought together representatives from seven (7) coastal LGUs of Capiz, along with mussel growers and other industry stakeholders, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative planning toward a more sustainable and data-driven mussel industry.

Through strengthened collaboration among the government, academe, mussel growers, and stakeholders, we continue to work toward a stronger, more sustainable, and resilient mussel industry in Capiz.

Provincial Agricultural Stakeholders Forum | August 26, 2026

The Provincial Agriculturist Office successfully conducted the Provincial Agricultural Stakeholders Forum on August 26, 2026, bringing together key agricultural stakeholders to discuss, coordinate, and harmonize the implementation of various agricultural programs and projects in the province.

The forum provided an avenue for stakeholders to share updates, strengthen coordination, and address emerging concerns affecting the agricultural sector. Among the key agenda discussed were updates from the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA), Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), Department of Agriculture (DA)
- Western Visayas, as well as various initiatives and programs of the Provincial Agriculturist Office.

A significant concern highlighted during the forum was the ongoing damage assessment and validation of areas affected by red-striped soft scale insect infestation. The activity underscores the importance of coordinated efforts among concerned agencies and stakeholders in assessing the extent of the infestation and developing appropriate interventions to support affected farmers.

Through continued collaboration and strengthened partnerships, the Provincial Agriculturist Office remains committed to advancing responsive, sustainable, and farmer-centered agricultural programs for the province.
