ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ, June 11, 2021- The technical working group (TWG) convened today during a presentation for the 2021 Provincial Agri-Fishery Achievers Awards.

As the best practices and accomplishments of our farmers, fisherfolk, farmers & fisherfolk associations, rural women, and youth groups are commended, the Capiz Provincial Government has concluded the winners for the said search.

Led by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, the project was launched in February to recognize outstanding individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the field of agri-fisheries and rural community improvements in the province of Capiz.

The presentation, participated in by Gov. Esteban Evan B. Contreras and Provincial Administrator Dr. Edwin C. Monares, discussed that this first-ever project will be recreated in the next year's agricultural programs.

The chosen winners for the 2021 Provincial Agri-Fishery Achievers Awards are set for a virtual awarding ceremony. The said project was made possible in partnership with the different offices of the Municipal/City Agriculturist in Capiz. # # /OPA-Capiz

Roxas City, Capiz- Strengthening the role of youth as social actors of change, the Consultation Dialogue or “𝘒𝘢𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘯” is held today, April 12, at the Poolside, Villareal Stadium, Roxas City.

Led by Rural-Based Organization (RBO) focal person Ms. Sharon Dumali, 18 youth leaders and coordinator of the 4-H Club from 10 municipalities in Capiz convened.

With the aim to reactivate and reorganize youth organizations, the Agricultural Training Institute was tapped to give a talk to the young leaders from the municipalities of Pontevedra, Pres. Roxas, Pilar, Sigma, Dao, Dumalag, Dumarao, Jamindan, Maayon, and Mambusao.

Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia dela Cruz graced the opening of the said consultation dialogue, while RBO point person Ms. Lyn Bantigue of ATI served as the resource speaker.

The consultation dialogue was organized by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), in partnership with the Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center 6 (ATI-RTC 6).

Roxas City, Capiz- To ensure food availability and accessibility amid COVID-19 pandemic, the Capiz Provincial Government thru the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has turned over 5,100 pots of assorted vegetable seedlings to 150 households in Roxas City from May 19 to September 23, 2020.

Launched in March 2020 as part of 𝑆𝑒𝑟𝑏𝑖𝑠𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝐾𝑎𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑘𝑎 of Governor Esteban “Nonoy” Contreras, the Urban/Backyard Gardening Project has delivered 1,500 assorted vegetable seedlings to Barangay 7, while 900 seedlings each were given to the different barangays of Mongpong, Liong, Loctugan and Tanque.

The promotion of urban/backyard gardening is in line with the national government’s new normal thrust to ensure food security in the urban communities. “𝐴𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒, 𝑠𝑖𝑔𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑜 𝑝𝑎 𝑛𝑔𝑎 𝑠𝑎𝑓𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑚𝑜 𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎-𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑒, 𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙-𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒, 𝑎𝑣𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑘𝑎𝑔 𝑎𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑘𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑎 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑎 𝑖𝑚𝑜 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑜𝑑 𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑦.” dela Cruz added.

The Urban/Backyard Gardening Project targets to distribute 7,200 vegetable seedlings to 240 households in eight barangays in Roxas City; while 18,900 vegetable seedlings are allotted to 630 fisherfolk families in the seven coastal areas in Capiz. Furthermore, organic fertilizers and hand sprayers are included in the project for distribution.

Capiz Celebrates 11th Farmers and Fisherfolk Day

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist together with the Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas held the 11th Farmers and Fisherfolk Day Celebration and Agri Fishery Technology Expo on August 16-17, 2018 at the Capiz Gym, Villareal Stadium, Roxas City. Two thousand farmers and fisherfolk in Capiz were honored during the celebration in recognition of the significant role they hold as backbone of the economic sector.

The celebration kicked off with a motorcade participated by twenty four established agricultural and aquaculture companies, and partner agencies like BFAR, NFA, NIA, PCIC, ACPC and OPVet. Gov. Antonio del Rosario led the opening of the Agri-Fishery Technology Expo which showcased most recent innovative techniques in agriculture and fisheries. The expo likewise served as a venue for Capiceño farmers & fisherfolk to know of the various programs implemented by DA-partner agencies which could benefit them.

Break out sessions were prepared to disseminate relevant topics in agriculture such as the Briefing/Orientation on the Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) Program, Cultural Management of and Investment Opportunity for Adlai, Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides, Basic Coop Education Seminar and Fish Processing Demo (Bagongon as Burger Patty and Lumpia).

Regional Executive Director for DA Western Visayas Engr. Remelyn Recoter talked on the programs and thrusts implemented by the Department right now. The highlight of the two-day celebration was the awarding of cash prizes for the winners of the 1st Semester Vegetable Production Contest: A Special Livelihood Project.

AKBAY: Agrikultura Kaagapay Ng Bayang Pinoy Program

Ten beneficiaries from the municipality of Dumalag were awarded with checks by Gov. del Rosario under the poverty reduction program AKBAY: Agrikultura Kaagapay Ng Bayang Pinoy, implemented by the Department of Agriculture and OPA Capiz with MLGUs. The beneficiaries are among the poorest of the poor in the agri-fishery sector in the province.
