Roxas City, Capiz- To ensure food availability and accessibility amid COVID-19 pandemic, the Capiz Provincial Government thru the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has turned over 5,100 pots of assorted vegetable seedlings to 150 households in Roxas City from May 19 to September 23, 2020.
Launched in March 2020 as part of ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ ๐พ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ of Governor Esteban โNonoyโ Contreras, the Urban/Backyard Gardening Project has delivered 1,500 assorted vegetable seedlings to Barangay 7, while 900 seedlings each were given to the different barangays of Mongpong, Liong, Loctugan and Tanque.

The promotion of urban/backyard gardening is in line with the national governmentโs new normal thrust to ensure food security in the urban communities. โ๐ด๐ก ๐กโ๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐๐, ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐ข๐๐, ๐โ๐๐๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ.โ dela Cruz added.
The Urban/Backyard Gardening Project targets to distribute 7,200 vegetable seedlings to 240 households in eight barangays in Roxas City; while 18,900 vegetable seedlings are allotted to 630 fisherfolk families in the seven coastal areas in Capiz. Furthermore, organic fertilizers and hand sprayers are included in the project for distribution.
