Matusalem NHS Erupts for First Win, Demolishes Simimbaan Integrated School
Roxas, Cagayan Valley – Matusalem National High School's basketball team roared back from a tough start to the season with a resounding 101-57 victory over Simimbaan Integrated School.
The lopsided win marks their first of the campaign after two challenging losses against league powerhouses.
Matusalem NHS entered the contest hungry for a win, having dropped their opening two games against formidable opponents.
They channeled that frustration into an explosive offensive performance against Simimbaan Integrated School, leaving no doubt about the outcome.
From the opening tip, Matusalem NHS controlled the tempo, showcasing a balanced attack that overwhelmed Simimbaan Integrated School.
Their defense was equally impressive, stifling the Simimbaan offense and creating numerous fast-break opportunities.
Leading the charge for Matusalem NHS was Ivhan Ponce, who put on a show with a game-high 24 points. Ponce's dynamic play and scoring prowess were instrumental in setting the tone for the team's dominant performance.
He wasn't alone, though. Santiago contributed a solid 18 points, while Eden also chipped in with 18 points, demonstrating the team's offensive depth. Raymundo added 13 points, further solidifying Matusalem NHS's offensive dominance.
"We needed this win," said Coach Valdez, replacement Coach of Matusalem NHS. "The guys played with a lot of heart and intensity. We've been working hard in practice, and it showed today. It was a total team effort, and I'm proud of how everyone contributed."
Ponce, despite his impressive individual performance, emphasized the importance of teamwork. "It feels great to get the win," he said. "But it wasn't just me. We played as a team, we shared the ball, and we played tough defense. This is the kind of basketball we're capable of playing, and we need to keep it up."
The victory is a huge confidence booster for Matusalem NHS.
After a difficult start to the season, this dominant performance signals that they are a force to be reckoned with. With a balanced scoring attack led by Ponce, Santiago, Eden, and Raymundo, Matusalem NHS has the potential to make a deep run in the league.
The demolition of Simimbaan Integrated School is a clear message to the rest of the league: Matusalem NHS is back, and they are ready to compete.
