Participants were welcomed by Dr. Eduardo Diosalan, Jr., OIC, Office of the Focal Person.

The interactive discussion was joined by our panelists namely Mr. Kenneth R. Navarra, RPsy, Psychologist of Our Lady of Fatima Charitable Psychological Services; Ms. Paula Khryss P. Ushiyama, RN, RGC, Former Guidance Services Specialist of the University of the Philippines - Visayas; and, Ms. Ma. Emma Relyn B. Ordona, RGC, Designated Guidance Counselor of this campus.

The panelists talked about the intricacies of su***de, and its de-stigmatization; roles of individuals, and the community in su***de prevention; and the different strategies to help family and friends, and, at the same time, promote su***de prevention.

This event opened the discussion to the taboo concept of su***de, and allows the individuals, and the community to acknowledge, understand, and recognize su***de - its factors, and warning signs. At the same time, it inspired them to listen, empathize, and ask for help.

๐Ÿ“ขJOB SEEKERS, ARE YOU READY FOR TOMORROW?

"Employability is the combination of a job seeker's knowledge, skills, and personal attributes that make one capable of securing, maintaining, and advancing in a job."

As you prepare for your job application tomorrow, we would like to provide you with these last-minute tips.

1. ๐Ÿ“„ YOUR RESUME
โœ“ It is your marketing tool. You are the product.
โœ“ Make it short but complete and accurate.
โœ“ You may customize your resume based or depending on the position that you will be applying for.
โœ“ Highlight the skills and experiences based on the qualifications and requirements of the position.
โœ“ Research on the position.
โœ“ Review it a hundred times, if necessary, to ensure that it will be able to sell you as the most perfect fit for the position.

2. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ JOB INTERVIEW
โœ“ It is the best time for you to expound on your credentials as the interviewer will scrutinize your core to see if you are fit for the job.
โœ“ Make an impression through a ready smile, firm handshake, and by maintaining eye contact to project the confidence only the fittest can command. The first minute is critical to make a lasting impression.
โœ“ Prepare your "60-second elevator pitch" which highlights your past, your present, and your future. In other words, in a nutshell, introduce yourself with emphasis on your experience (the one that is most relevant to the position), your skills (what that experience taught you and what you gained from it), and what it will contribute to your role given the opportunity to be hired).
โœ“ Focus on the interview. Avoid distractions. Turn off your phone a couple of minutes before the interview to give you time to relax and collect yourself and your thoughts.

3. ๐Ÿ‘” YOUR ATTIRE
โœ“ Package yourself as a professional, that you are seriously looking for a job, and that you are the best fit for the job. Your attire must tell the interviewer that you come ready.
โœ“ Couple your attire with your hygiene. Smell fresh, look fresh.
โœ“ A job interview is a formal occasion. You will go there to be hired and not just to gallivant.

4. ๐Ÿ™ Pray. Pray. Pray!

Let us all be mindful of what we share and post in social media.

With the recent events at Zamboanga City, let us keep these reminders in mind.

The media plays an important role in delivering news during mass shootings. Here are some guidelines for the ethical and responsible coverage of mass shootings.

- Be mindful of your words. Avoid using terms like โ€œsuccessfulโ€ or โ€œfailed,โ€ like there is something to be gained or lost when carrying out the attack.

- Avoid reporting very specific details. There is a risk of copycat mass shootings. Reporting very specific details of the event may reinforce these copycat behaviors. Sensationalized imagery or messaging may also cause further distress.

- Focus on the survivors and not on the shooter. Do not glamorize the act by naming the shooter. Provide space for survivors to tell their stories at their own pace.

- Do not show raw images or videos of the shooting. This may cause unnecessary distress to the general public, and may exacerbate distress of those affected and their families. Obtain informed consent before filming survivors/victims and their families.

- Consider your presence in the affected community. Be sensitive as to how your presence in the community/school may make the community feel. Avoid intrusive questioning. Respect the grief and mourning of affected individuals and families.

- Avoid reporting on the shooterโ€™s psychological state or mental health, or on their motives. Wait for a thorough investigation before reporting these conclusions, as this may have a negative effect on other people with mental health concerns, or may motivate copycat shooters.

Furthermore, make sure you report clearly and calmly so as not to cause unnecessary anxiety and confusion.

Provide resources for those who might be in need of professional help. Include information on crisis hotlines, counseling services, and community support.

Report only the facts and avoid speculation. For more guidance, you may check the following:
