SK-Saclit Leads Tree Planting Activity

The Sangguniang Kabataan of Saclit organized a Tree Planting Activity at Engak and Yukaw, Saclit, Sadanga, Mountain Province, yesterday, June 29, 2026.

Students and teachers from Saclit National High School, personnel from PNP-Sadanga and Atwan Patrol Base personnel, staff from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and local youth volunteers participated in the activity.

The activity aims to promote environmental protection, climate change awareness, and youth involvement in community-based conservation efforts.

The activity equipped youths with essential knowledge on disaster risk reduction and management principles, enhancing their capacity to contribute to community resilience.

Resource speakers and facilitators were from the Philippine Army, Office of Civil Defense, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, and Municipal DRRM Offices, sharing their expertise on disaster preparedness, response, and mitigation strategies.

The training aimed to empower youths to participate in disaster risk reduction initiatives and promote a culture of safety and resilience in their communities.

The participants would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the facilitators and speakers for sharing their valuable knowledge and experience, and for their dedication to building a disaster-resilient community.

An emerging contender is steadily carving out a place in the boxing scene, building his reputation one disciplined performance at a time and proving that consistency is what turns promise into recognition.

At 25, Renden “Take Over” Oppas of Saclit, Sadanga, Mountain Province, stepped onto the international stage and delivered a career-defining performance, defeating Kha Lu in Melbourne, Australia on April 11, 2026 to claim the WBC Australasian Minimumweight Title, making him the first Igorot to capture a regional championship abroad.

The milestone was the result of years of steady preparation. He entered boxing in 2016, influenced by a coach from Kapangan, Benguet, and progressed through sustained training and competition. Today, his preparation is guided by Coaches Nathan Bolcio and Alan Alegria, with overall management under Darwin Miller Angelo Dep-ay of Team Boxing Prodigy. This structured support system has been instrumental in refining his ring craft and conditioning.

Parallel to his athletic career, Oppas pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from University of Baguio. He is currently preparing for his board examination, underscoring a dual-track commitment to both sport and profession.

“I’m proud to bring home the belt to my hometown and country,” Oppas said. “This victory shows that every athlete can succeed nationally and internationally when given moral and financial support.”

His remarks point to a broader issue in Philippine sports, where talent is widely distributed but access to sustained support remains uneven. Oppas’ success demonstrates what can be achieved when ability is backed by proper guidance and resources.

He returns now to training camp with a clear objective—title defense and continued ascent in the minimumweight division. In a sport where margins are narrow, maintaining performance requires continuous technical adjustment and high training volume.

From the highlands of Sadanga to an international stage, Oppas demonstrates that sustained focus, supported by the right system, can convert ambition into measurable success. Saclit’s "Takeover" sweeps Melbourne: WBC champ Renden Oppas honored by Gov. Lacwasan

Bontoc - Saclit Boxing Champ Pays a Courtesy Visit to Gov. Lacwasan

Renden G. Oppas, known in the ring as “The Takeover” of Saclit, Sadanga, Mountain Province, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. on April 30, 2026, at the Governor’s Mansion.

Oppas recently secured the WBC Australasian Minimumweight Title by defeating his opponent in a match held in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this month. He shared with the Governor that, despite not receiving any awards during his high school athletic meets, he pursued his boxing career with resolute determination and discipline, which ultimately led to his current achievement.
With these, the Governor extended his congratulations. He commended Oppas for bringing honor and pride not only to his family and community but also to the entire province of Mountain Province.

Accompanying him during the visit were Sadanga Sangguniang Bayan Member Daniel G. Dawadeo, Saclit Punong Barangay Alex A. Churping, and Saclit Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson Joylyne A. Gongran.
