SEARCH SOFIA OPERATION-

August 23, 2026

The Barangay Local Government Unit of Dagdag, together with responders, volunteers, and members of the PADEDA community, continued to support the Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR) operation for Sofia on August 23, 2026. Although the Incident Command Post (ICP) established at Barangay Dagdag has already been deactivated, the commitment of the community to continue supporting the search remains unwavering. The deactivation of the ICP does not signify the end of the community’s concern and efforts for Sofia, as responders and volunteers continue to come forward, guided by hope, faith, and solidarity.

Before the deployment of search teams, a Holy Mass was held at the former ICP in Barangay Dagdag, attended by responders, volunteers, and members of the PADEDA community. The Mass became a meaningful moment of prayer, unity, and renewed strength for everyone involved in the continuing search. It reminded the community that even amid difficult circumstances and unfavorable weather, faith and collective action remain sources of strength.

For Day 15, five search teams composed of 30 dedicated individuals were mobilized and deployed to identified areas, covering the routes from Danum to Besao, Guedangan to Patay, and Ground Zero to Demang. The searchers carried with them not only their equipment and training but also the shared hope of finding Sofia and bringing answers and comfort to her family and the community.

The BLGU Dagdag extends its deepest appreciation to all responders and volunteers who continue to give their time, strength, and resources despite the challenges. Their presence and continued willingness to serve are a testament to the bayanihan spirit of the community. Every person who joins the search contributes to keeping hope alive and demonstrates that Sofia and her family are not alone in this difficult journey.

Although the ICP has been deactivated, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated to accommodate responders and volunteers who are willing to continue participating in the search. The EOC will continue to facilitate proper check-in, manifesting, coordination, and deployment procedures to ensure that succeeding search activities remain organized, safe, and properly coordinated.

Subject to weather conditions, tomorrow’s search operation will focus on re-sweeping river areas and cave entrances within Patay Demang and Dagdag. Should rainfall continue and conditions make these areas unsafe or impractical to search, responders will redirect their efforts toward surrounding slopes, side areas, and other possible routes and locations that may require further inspection. This adaptive approach will allow the search to continue while ensuring that identified areas are thoroughly revisited.

The BLGU Dagdag remains deeply grateful to every individual, agency, organization, volunteer, and community member who has stood with Sofia’s family throughout this difficult time. The past 15 days have shown the extraordinary strength of compassion, faith, cooperation, and bayanihan, with many people extending their time, manpower, food, equipment, transportation, prayers, and other forms of assistance. The BLGU Dagdag continues to stand with the family and all those who remain committed to the search.

The deactivation of the ICP does not mean that our concern for Sofia ends. As long as there are people willing to search, pray, and stand together, hope remains alive.

We continue to hope. We continue to pray. We continue to search.

SOFIA, PLEASE COME HOME.

SEARCH FOR SOFIA – DAY 14 OPERATION UPDATE

The Search for Sofia continued today, August 22, 2026, marking the 14th day of the search operation.

Today’s operation was strengthened by 89 searchers organized into 17 teams, who continued the systematic search across identified areas and possible routes. The search was further expanded toward Kanipawan, Kiltepan, and Tatayaen, covering all other possible areas that may provide leads in the continuing search.

As of today, the search operation has covered an estimated 1,599.98 square hectares.

The search was also intensified through the deployment of search and rescue dogs Ninong, Jake, and Rocky, together with their respective handlers. Their participation provided additional capability in searching difficult and extensive areas.

The search will continue tomorrow, August 23.

The BLGU Dagdag has arranged a Mass at 7:30 AM tomorrow at the Barangay Hall, as the community continues to seek strength, guidance, and hope during this difficult time.

Tomorrow will also mark the official end of the Incident Command Post (ICP) at Barangay Dagdag. The coordination and management of the continuing operation will thereafter be transferred to the Municipal Operation Center.

Those who wish to continue participating in the search are requested to coordinate with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for proper deployment and coordination.

While the central coordination will be transferred to the Municipal Operation Center, Barangay coordination and appearance remain highly appreciated. Those joining the search are encouraged to coordinate with the barangay so that their participation and activities can be properly recorded and documented.

The search for Sofia continues. We remain grateful to every searcher, volunteer, responder, handler, local government unit, organization, and individual who has shared their time, strength, resources, and prayers.

We continue to search. We continue to hope.

SEARCH FOR SOFIA UPDATE

The Search for Sofia continued today, August 21, with 13 search teams deployed across assigned areas, supported by K-9 search and rescue dogs Ninong, and its units PNP-EOD/K9; and Rocky, and Jake with their handlers from BFP-NCR.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the searchers from MDRRMO, Sagada Emergency Response Volunteers Society (SERVS), local guides’ organizations, MPSU-NSTP, BLGU Patay, BLHU Demang, and BLGU Dagdag, NIA-MPSO, Sagada National High School Teachers, who joined today’s operation and generously gave their time, strength, and effort in the continuing search for Ms. Sofia Magalgalit Oria.

Today’s search extended as far as Ampacao, Underground, and surrounding households, with teams continuing to explore other possible areas and routes.

Tomorrow, August 22, will be the LAST DAY of the MALAWAKANG SEARCH.

We are once again making a heartfelt call to our volunteers, guides, umilis, agencies, organizations, and community members who are able to join.

The final widespread search will include Kanipawan, Lamagan, Maba-at, Sumaging, down to Balangagan, as well as other possible areas that may help lead us to Sofia.

On Sunday, August 23, the search will conclude with a Holy Mass at Barangay Dagdag at 7:30 AM.

To everyone who has continued to stand with Sofia and her family—those who searched, provided food and supplies, offered transportation, gave financial and in-kind assistance, and quietly extended whatever help they could—from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

The days have been long and difficult, but we will continue to search and hope until the very end.

Sofia, we are still looking for you.
Sofia, please come home.

🙏 Para kay Sofia. Para sa pamilya. Para sa buong komunidad.

Huwag tayong bibitaw hanggang sa huli.

SEARCH SOFIA OPERATION

The Search for Sofia continued today, August 20, with the participation of volunteers, local government units, and response teams who continue to give their time, manpower, and resources during this difficult time.

Today’s search involved teams from Tadian LGU, Besao LGU, 1st MPPMFC, MDRRMO, Sagada Emergency Response Volunteers Society (SERVS), Bontoc PLGU, BJMP, Sagada BFP, and Sagada PNP, together with K-9 Ninong and his unit. Households from Demang and Dagdag also joined the effort, helping check possible areas where Sofia may be found.

We are deeply grateful for the arrival of two additional search and rescue dogs, Rocky and Jake, together with their handlers from BFP-NCR. Their presence will further strengthen the continuing search operation.

But beyond the names of agencies and teams, we want to recognize something that has touched us deeply during this difficult time—the unsolicited help that people and communities have poured into Sagada.

Many of you did not wait to be asked. You did not need an invitation. You simply came. You offered your people, your equipment, your resources, your time, and your strength because you saw that Sagada was hurting and chose to stand with us.

To Bontoc LGU, Sabangan LGU, Tadian LGU, Bauko LGU, Besao LGU, and Sadanga LGU, our deepest gratitude. Your continued assistance has gone beyond what we could have asked for. You have sent personnel, responders, volunteers, equipment, and other forms of support—not because you were required to, but because you wanted to help. You poured your resources and your hearts into Sagada at a time when we needed them most.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Kalinga Provincial Government, particularly Governor James Edduba, for activating a watch along the Chico River in their area. This was another powerful reminder that the concern for Sofia has reached far beyond the boundaries of Sagada. Communities outside Mountain Province have also chosen to look out for her.

To every municipality, barangay, organization, responder, volunteer, household, and individual who has quietly extended help—thank you.

Thank you to those who searched the rivers and waterways. Thank you to those who provided equipment and supplies. Thank you to those who prepared food and cared for our searchers. Thank you to those who gave their manpower and time. Thank you to those who gave without being asked. And thank you to everyone who continues to pray.

We have three more days of the planned search operation. Three more days to continue looking, checking, sweeping, and following every possible lead. Three more days where we ask everyone who can help to stand with us. But even if we stop the search as requested by the family, the Sagada PNP and their partners will continue to work and find the lead where to find Sofia.

We know these days have been long and exhausting. But as long as there is still time to search, we will continue to search.

The support poured into Sagada has given us strength to keep going. Every volunteer who comes, every responder who deploys, every community that sends help, every person who prays—each one becomes part of this search for Sofia.

In these difficult days, you have shown us that compassion knows no municipal boundaries. When one community is hurting, another community can choose to come closer. When one family is searching, many families can choose to search with them.

From Sagada to Bontoc, Sabangan, Tadian, Bauko, Besao, Sadanga, Kalinga, and beyond—thank you for pouring your strength into this search.

Four more days. Let us give it our all.

Let us remain united, hopeful, and steadfast. Let us continue to look, continue to pray, and continue to believe.

Let us not give up until Sofia is found.

Gawis ay labi tako amin.

May God continue to give strength to Sofia’s family, our searchers, volunteers, and every person who continues to stand with us.

SOFIA, PLEASE COME HOME.
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR YOU.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Sagada Emergency Response and Volunteer Society (SERVS), Regional Mobile Force Battalion 1502nd PNP (RMFB 1502), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Sagada Municipal Police Station (MPS), 1st MPPMFC, 102nd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army (102 IBPA), Sagada Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Ninong and his search team/handler. The search will also expand to households, beginning from homes and systematically moving toward the designated dispatch areas, in our continuing effort to check every possible place where Sofia may be found. As requested by the family, the Search for Sofia will officially conclude on the 15th day, Sunday, August 23, 2026, with or without result. Until that day, we continue to ask everyone to remain united, hopeful, and supportive.

Most of all, please continue to include Sofia in our prayers—that she may be found and brought home safely. Let us not give up. Let us not be afraid. We continue to search. We continue to hope. We continue to pray.
Gawis ay labi tako amin. May God guide every searcher and lead us to our daughter, Sofia.🙏

Aug. 18- SEARCH SOFIA UPDATE

The Search for Sofia continued today, August 18, with search teams deployed to Sugong, Atey, and Ground Zero, with the search extended to Gedangan, Bangbangan, and as far as Bitin, Sitio Ambasing.

K-9 Ninyong and his unit arrived today to assist in the operation. Meanwhile, Zuma, our search dog who has been with the team in the previous days, was sent home to rest. We are deeply grateful to all the handlers and K-9 teams who continue to extend their support to the search.

As part of today’s efforts, the elders also performed rituals to call Sofia home, alongside the continuing search and rescue efforts.

We also acknowledge the separate updates posted by Sagada MDRRMO, Sagada BFP, and Sagada PNP regarding today’s operation.

We once again call on our volunteer searchers who are willing and able to join the operation. Your presence, time, and effort remain invaluable as we continue searching every possible area.

We are also still in need of lights and flashlights to support the search teams, especially in areas with limited visibility. Any donation or assistance of usable lights will be greatly appreciated.

To everyone who continues to help, pray, and stand with the family—gawis ay labi tako amin. Let us continue working together, keep hope alive, and bring Sofia home.
