Our Story
Indai Le is a nickname of Felipa B. Cortes. She is the eldest among the five children of Farmer/Educator Mr. Elpidio Yagao Degamo Ompad Cortes and Mrs. Lucia Saliot Bonajos Lumanip Baba, a house wife, both natives of Ubojan, Sagbayan, Bohol. Felipa is a former Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council Chairman for 3 years and a Barangay Captain of Santa Catalina, Sagbayan, Bohol for 10 years. She was only 23 years old when she started as BLGU Official, got married, and blessed with four children; she was the youngest official Boholwide at that time. Despite her position as such, Felipa is a hardworking mother and a Barangay Captain. She’s still actively farming and sells vegetable produce in their local market. She even has a small Sari-Sari Store in their house for added income just to augment her family needs. During those years, Felipa struggled because of an irresponsible and abusive husband. After 10 years of service as Barangay Captain she decided to try her luck as OFW to support her four children and at the same time to avoid her verbally, emotionally and physically abusived husband and to pursue a life of financial independence on her own. After 5 years of working abroad, she came home last March 12, 2018 when President Rodrigo Duterte announced the Repatriation Program in Kuwait. She was among the first batch who took heed and came home with only a backpack of belongings when she arrived at NAIA. Felipa also decided when she got home to finally end what she perceived as a failed marriage with her now ex-husband. She just simply walked away. She then went back to tilt their land for a living on her own. And that's how the Villa Cortes Criollo Farm was born. During her last year as OFW, Felipa inquired through Social Media which crops were the best especially in the future, crops that would give her high productivity as a source of living. She then met with the Plantacion de Sikwate Cacao Producer's Association, Inc. (through Facebook) who opined to her about The Best Cacao Variety, the reputed Filipino Aromatico®. Felipa became curious about it and was obsessed on searching and propagating this unique cacao variety. Thus far to date, she has searched and found the 18th Heirloom Mother Tree! PDS even called her "The Cacao Amazon" of Bohol because of her hard work in searching for heirloom cacao trees which are believed as remnants during the historical Acapulco Trade. Felipa or Indai Le has already planted about 2,500 of these Filipino Aromatico® White Bean Cultivar so far and she will continue planting in the next season. In January 2019, she decided to make tablea while waiting for her recently planted heirloom cacao to produce cacao pods, and that's when Felipa making Indai Le™ Tablea started. Indai Le™ Tablea is unique and special because it is handcrafted into perfection by traditional method of tablea making. And, the cacao beans are single source only within Bohol.
