🌞🔥 HEAT STROKE / HEAT EXHAUSTION AWARENESS ACTIVITY 🔥🌞
Today, April 30, 2026, Davao del Norte Hospital – IGACOS Zone successfully conducted a Heat Stroke / Heat Exhaustion Awareness Activity at the 3rd Floor Admin Building in partnership with PTV DavNor 48 through an online live symposium.
The activity was attended by 65 participants composed of hospital employees and intern students from Samal Island City College and University of Mindanao – Peñaplata Branch.
The symposium discussed the dangers of heat-related illnesses brought about by prolonged exposure to high temperatures and extreme heat conditions.
☀️ Heat Exhaustion is a condition caused by excessive loss of water and salt from the body due to sweating. Common symptoms include heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, and fainting.
🔥 Heat Stroke is a severe and life-threatening condition where the body can no longer control its temperature. Warning signs include very high body temperature, hot or dry skin, confusion, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, and seizures. Immediate medical attention is necessary as heat stroke can lead to serious complications or death.
Participants were also educated on important prevention measures, including:
✅ Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated
✅ Avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
✅ Wearing light-colored and comfortable clothing
✅ Taking regular rest breaks in cool areas
✅ Avoiding strenuous activities during peak heat hours
In case of heat emergencies, the speakers emphasized the following emergency interventions:
🚑 Move the person to a cool or shaded area
🚑 Loosen or remove unnecessary clothing
🚑 Apply cold compress or wet cloth to the body
🚑 Encourage water intake if the person is conscious
🚑 Seek immediate medical assistance, especially for suspected heat stroke cases
Special thanks to our resource speakers from Davao Regional Medical Center, Dr. Freomel Ryan Januto and Dr. Arvin Clint Joyno, for sharing their knowledge and expertise in promoting awareness and preparedness against heat-related illnesses.
Let us continue promoting a healthy, safe, and prepared workplace for everyone. ☀️💧
