In a decisive move to bring livelihood opportunities directly to every barangay, the City Government of Samal, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), held the Oath-Taking Ceremony for the new Barangay Employment Training Assistance Officers (BETAO) on August 19, 2026, at the SP Session Hall.

The newly sworn-in officers will serve as vital community linkages for local workforce programs. To equip them for their roles, LEO I Brylle M. Gumba discussed core PESO Services, the First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act, and the National Skills Registration Program (NSRP).

City Mayor Hon. Lemuel T. Reyes administered the oath and, alongside TESDA XI Regional Director Dir. Tarhata S. Mapandi, CESO III, delivered strong messages of support. The event was also graced by TESDA Davao del Norte Provincial Director Dir. Jasmin J. Neri, Ed.D., Vincent S. Hinay, CTC-IGACOS Administrator, and Acting PESO Manager Ms. Ana Fe C. Luga., MBA

This milestone stands as a living testament to the shared commitment of Samal LGU, TESDA, and PESO in transforming lives through accessible public service. The City Government extends its full support and highest commendation to all newly inducted BETA Officers.

The City Government of the Island Garden City of Samal, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), successfully held a Mass Graduation for 250 skilled beneficiaries on August 19, 2026, at the Roofdeck, New City Hall.

The commencement ceremony celebrated the dedication and technical expertise acquired by the graduates across various vocational disciplines, equipping them with essential competencies to secure immediate employment and build sustainable livelihoods.

The momentous event was graced by distinguished officials who underscored their shared commitment to empowering the local workforce, led by City Mayor 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗧. The City Scholarship Committee has completed the initial screening of applicants for the City Scholarship Program (CSP), with qualified applicants now advancing to the Final Interview.

Following a careful evaluation and deliberation, the Committee shortlisted 116 applicants from the different districts to proceed to the final stage of the selection process.

The screening was conducted amid strong interest in the program, with approximately 300 applicants competing for only 59 available scholarship slots.

The shortlisted applicants are expected to undergo the final interview as part of the Committee's comprehensive selection process. The final assessment will determine the applicants who will be awarded scholarship grants under the City Scholarship Program.

The City Government of the Island Garden City of Samal, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), commends all applicants for their effort and determination throughout the screening process.

The office likewise reminds the shortlisted applicants to stay updated for the official announcement of the Final Interview schedule and other requirements.

After careful deliberation, the Scholarship Committee has agreed to proceed with the Final Interview for the qualified applicants.

With only 59 available scholarship slots and approximately 300 applicants, the Committee has shortlisted the Top 116 applicants from each district to proceed to the final interview.

📌 Important: Being included in the final interview does not yet guarantee a scholarship slot. The final selection will be based on the results of the succeeding screening and interview process.

𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗧 | On August 4, 2026, OWWA, in partnership with the City Mayor's Office – Public Employment Service Office (PESO), successfully conducted the Tatak OWWA: Navigating OWWA Services cm Financial Literacy and Business Generation Seminar simultaneously in Brgy. Tagbitan-ag and Brgy. Anonang, Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS). The activity helped participants better understand OWWA's programs and services while equipping them with practical knowledge on managing their finances and exploring simple business opportunities.

The program reflects the shared commitment of OWWA and the City Mayor's Office–PESO to support OFWs and their families through information, financial education, and livelihood opportunities. By promoting wise financial decisions and income-generating ideas, the seminar encourages families to build a more secure and sustainable future.
