The much-anticipated Summer Saya sa Isla 2026 officially opened with a lively 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙫𝙤 𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙮 6, 2026, 𝙖𝙩 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙮 𝙏𝙖𝙜𝙥𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙣, setting the tone for a season of sun-soaked festivities under the theme: “𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅: 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒚, 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓.”

The opening ceremony was led by 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙧 𝙇𝙚𝙢𝙪𝙚𝙡 𝙏. 𝙍𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨, together with City and Barangay Officials, LGU department heads, tourism stakeholders, constituents, and visitors who gathered in a colorful celebration showcasing the island’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and strong community spirit. Festivities featured energetic performances, engaging activities, and a warm welcome highlighting Samal Island as a premier summer destination in the region.

The Opening Salvo marks the beginning of a series of activities lined up throughout the season, designed to promote tourism, support local businesses, and provide memorable experiences for both residents and tourists.

As the festivities unfold, visitors are invited to explore the island’s pristine beaches, rich marine life, and unique attractions—truly living out the call to dive into beauty and feel the summer in Samal.

The Province of Davao del Norte through its Investment Promotion Division conducted a 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞-𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 - 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 (𝙎𝙎𝙁) 𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙮 6, 2026, as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen local enterprise development and shared service facility initiatives in the province.

Leading the delegation were 𝙀𝙉𝙋 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙤 𝙅𝙧. 𝘽. 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙤, Asst. Provincial Administrator and 𝙈𝙨. 𝙅𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙮𝙣𝙖𝙧 𝙈. 𝙈𝙞𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙨, Provincial LEDIPO together with members of the Provincial Investment Promotion Division team.

The benchmarking activity aimed to provide the visiting delegation with insights into the operations, management practices, and sustainability initiatives of the Samal Island Mini-Food Processing Center, which continues to support local food processors, micro-enterprises, and community-based livelihood initiatives in the island.

The activity also served as a venue for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte and the local government of the Island Garden City of Samal.

During the meeting, the final calendar of activities for Summer Saya sa Isla 2026 was formally presented, featuring an exciting lineup of events and activities designed to entertain residents and visitors throughout the celebration. Key discussions also covered security measures, traffic management, environmental initiatives, emergency preparedness, and other logistical concerns to ensure the smooth implementation of all scheduled events.

In celebration of Earth Month, the City Investment and Tourism Office (CITO) – Culture and Arts Unit successfully conducted the 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥: 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙋𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧, 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝘼𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙡 29, 2026, 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙪𝙢, 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙃𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙂𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙡.

The workshop gathered enthusiastic young participants aged 6 to 12 years old, providing them with a fun, educational, and hands-on experience that combined creativity with environmental awareness. Through engaging activities such as Floral Painting and Anthotype Printing, the children were able to explore nature-inspired art using leaves, flowers, and natural pigments.

The Floral Painting session introduced the participants to transferring natural colors and patterns from plants onto fabric through gentle pounding, while the Anthotype Printing activity allowed them to create sun prints using turmeric and sunlight—highlighting the beauty and fragility of nature.

The activity was made possible through the support and partnership of Culture and Arts Advocate: 𝘼𝙧. 𝙎𝙪𝙜𝙖𝙧 𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙖, 𝘼𝙧. 𝘼𝙅 𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙖, 𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙤, 𝙇𝙚𝙖 𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙧, 𝙈𝙖𝙞 𝙊𝙣𝙜𝙠𝙞𝙠𝙤, 𝘼𝙣𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚 𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙖.

With this year’s theme, “𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙏𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙤 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙎𝙀𝘼𝙉,” the event celebrated the rich culinary heritage of the Philippines while highlighting its connection to the diverse and vibrant flavors of Southeast Asia. The activity gathered local government units of Davao Region and tourism stakeholders in promoting Filipino cuisine as a key driver of cultural identity and tourism development.

The Local Government Unit of the Island Garden City of Samal (LGU-IGACOS) through the City Investment and Tourism Office (CITO), successfully mounted a captivating 𝑩𝒊𝒓𝒅𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐 𝑬𝒙𝒉𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒖𝒎, 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒍 22, 2026 which will run until May 27,2026, in celebration with the Earth Day, “𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓, 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅”.

A key highlight of this year’s celebration is the Photo Exhibit of the Birds of Samal Island, featuring remarkable images captured and owned by 𝑴𝒂’𝒂𝒎 𝑳𝒆𝒂 𝑾𝒂𝒍𝒌𝒆𝒓. The exhibit showcases the diverse bird species thriving within the Samal Island Nature Sanctuary, offering visitors a compelling glimpse into the island’s rich and vibrant wildlife.

More than a visual showcase, the exhibit serves as a meaningful reminder of Samal Island’s flourishing biodiversity and emphasizes the importance of environmental conservation. Through these striking photographs, viewers are inspired to appreciate, protect, and take part in preserving the island’s natural resources.

Facilitated by CITO, the initiative forms part of the city’s continued efforts to promote environmental awareness, sustainable tourism, and active community participation in conservation programs. It also highlights the vital role of art and photography in fostering a deeper connection between people and nature.

The Local Government Unit of the Island Garden City of Samal (LGU-IGaCoS), through the City Investment and Tourism Office (CITO) – Culture and Arts Unit, successfully conducted a 𝒕𝒘𝒐-𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒂 𝑳𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒔𝒂 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒍𝒊𝒎 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒍 20–21, 2026, 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒕𝒂. 𝑪𝒓𝒖𝒛, 𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒖𝒅 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅, 𝑲𝒂𝒑𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒕.

The initiative was carried out in coordination with the Department of Tourism Region XI (DOT XI), aiming to strengthen the weaving skills of the Sama Lamenosa community while preserving their rich cultural heritage. The training provided participants with enhanced techniques in traditional weaving, product development, and quality improvement to help them create market-ready products.

Participants were also oriented on sustainable livelihood practices, empowering them to transform their craftsmanship into viable income-generating opportunities. The program highlights the importance of community-based tourism by showcasing authentic local culture and supporting grassroots economic development.

The meeting gathered barangay officials, LGU concerned offices and community representatives, to discuss essential preparations for the Bankarera event, which is one of the highlights of the Summer Saya 2026 celebration. Topics discussed included event mechanics, safety and security measures, logistical arrangements, and the roles and responsibilities of each participating sector.

Bankarera, a vibrant showcase of Samal Island’s rich coastal culture and community spirit, is expected to draw both locals and tourists, further boosting the island’s tourism activities this summer season.
