The Municipality of San Andres successfully conducted the โSayaw San Andres: Felices Momentos Folk Dance Workshopโ on August 1โ2, 2026, bringing together selected Grade 9 and 10 students and MAPEH teachers from San Andres National High School (SANHS). The workshop marked the townโs first initiative dedicated to the research, documentation, and preservation of its local folk dance heritage.
The program highlighted Felices Momentos, a traditional song-and-dance performed as a birthday tribute. Though rarely presented today, it remains a significant part of San Andresโ cultural identity. Historical research traces its origins to San Narciso, the former capital of what is now the Municipality of San Andres, making the tradition an enduring symbol of the townโs shared history.
The two-day workshop was facilitated by Joe Anthony L. Basco, Dance Researcher, Artistic Director, and Founder of the Hiyas Kalilayan Cultural Group. Participants explored the danceโs history, literature, structure, choreography, and cultural significance, gaining a deeper appreciation of its artistic and historical value.
Organized by the Municipal Government of San Andres through the Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office, the workshop reflects the local governmentโs commitment to safeguarding and promoting its intangible cultural heritage. It also serves as the beginning of a broader cultural preservation program, including continued research and documentation of other traditional dances such as Pantomina de San Andres, which showcases the townโs unique cultural evolution influenced by Bicolano heritage.
Through initiatives like Sayaw San Andres, the municipality continues to preserve, celebrate, and pass on its rich traditions to future generations.
