August 11, 2026 | The Local Government Unit of San Benito officials and the executives of LUTAO recently convened for their 3rd Coordination Meeting to further solidify their joint commitment to local culture, sports, and tourism development. ✨🍃

As we gear up for the upcoming 55th Adlaw nan San Benito this September 2026, both stakeholders discussed exciting collaborative efforts, including:

⭐️The Bugsay Lajag Race- Highlighting our rich maritime heritage and San Benito’s vibrant paddling tradition.

⭐️Batak-Lugit Competition- Celebrating the hard work, skill, and traditions of our local coconut farmers.

Ever wondered where the name of the Bugsay–Lajag Festival comes from?
Literally translating to “rowing and sailing,” Bugsay–Lajag reflects the rich maritime heritage of San Benito, honoring the traditional ways local fisherfolk navigated the sea using paddles and sails. 🛶🌊

Beyond its coastal roots, the festival carries a deeply spiritual meaning reflecting the virtue and motto of the town's patron, Saint Benedict:
“Ora et Labora” — Prayer and Work.

📅 Date: Celebrated every March 21 during the annual fiesta honoring Sr. San Benito.
🚣 Main Attraction: The exciting Bugsay–Lajag Regatta, featuring traditional boat rowing and sailing competitions.

July 30, 2026 | Local Chief Executive, Hon. Gina S. Menil together with LGU San Benito department heads and officials recently met with Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA)- Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Mark T. Lapid in General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

The meeting focused on discussing key updates and strategic progress for the Poneas Hidden Lake Development Project, a flagship eco-tourism initiative aimed at putting San Benito’s natural wonders on the map while creating sustainable opportunities for our community.

With strong partnership and shared vision between LGU San Benito and TIEZA, we are one step closer to unlocking the full potential of Poneas Hidden Lake!
