PROJECT SHAPE 2.0 Presented at Ateneo de Iloilo

Today, May 28, 2026, at the prestigious Ateneo de Iloilo, the School Principal III of Tanquigan Elementary School, Maria Liza P. Higoy, proudly presented PROJECT SHAPE 2.0 — School and Home Assistance Program for Advancing Proficient and Engaged Readers — as a transformational reading intervention program designed to improve the reading skills of struggling learners in Grades 4 to 6.

The presentation highlighted the school’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that no learner is left behind in literacy development. PROJECT SHAPE 2.0 is deeply anchored on the school’s mantra: “Every child reads. Every mind innovates. Every learner belongs.” This guiding principle reflects the school’s vision of creating an inclusive learning environment where literacy, innovation, and learner empowerment are given utmost importance.

An enhanced version of the original PROJECT SHAPE, the program promotes stronger collaboration among teachers, parents, stakeholders, and the community in addressing learners’ reading gaps through structured, learner-centered, and data-driven interventions. The initiative also integrates the use of digitalized reading materials and technology-based learning tools to make reading instruction more engaging, interactive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of 21st-century learners.

Through PROJECT SHAPE 2.0, learners are provided with contextualized and digitalized reading materials, interactive literacy activities, and guided reading support both in school and at home. Teachers utilize innovative reading strategies and digital tools to monitor learners’ progress, strengthen comprehension skills, and encourage independent reading habits. Parents and guardians likewise serve as active partners in reinforcing literacy activities beyond the classroom, proving that education truly becomes more meaningful when the school and community work hand in hand.

The program aims to:
1. improve learners’ reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary skills;
2. provide targeted interventions for struggling readers;
3. strengthen school-home-community partnership in literacy development;
4. integrate digitalized reading materials and technology-driven learning tools in reading instruction;
5. cultivate learners’ love for reading through engaging and meaningful experiences; and
6. sustain a culture of literacy, innovation, inclusivity, and lifelong learning.

The presentation served as an inspiration to fellow school leaders and educators, demonstrating how transformational leadership, collaboration, and innovation can create meaningful change in learners’ academic performance and reading achievement.

Indeed, Tanquigan Elementary School continues to uphold its commitment to transforming struggling readers into proficient, engaged, and empowered learners through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable literacy programs.

Tanquigan Elementary School successfully conducted its three-day School-Based Capacity Building on ICT Integration, Assessment Literacy, and Action Research, on May 18-20, 2026 aimed at empowering teachers with relevant knowledge, skills, and strategies to enhance classroom instruction and professional practice.

On Day 1, the training commenced with an insightful session facilitated by Mrs. Maria Liza Pascua Higoy, School Principal, who discussed the Positive Use of ICT and ICT Integration in the Classroom. Teachers actively participated in crafting lesson plans that integrated ICT tools and strategies to make learning more engaging, interactive, and learner-centered. In the afternoon, Mr. Herbert Dumaguin, the School ICT Coordinator and expert facilitated a dynamic session on Digital Tools for Teaching and Learning, focusing on the effective use of Microsoft PowerPoint as a powerful instructional tool in lesson delivery. The first day was indeed fun, collaborative, and engaging for all participants.

Day 2 was facilitated by Mrs. Maria Liza Pascua Higoy centered on Assessment Literacy aligned with the revised K to 10 Curriculum. Teachers deepened their understanding of appropriate assessment practices and were tasked to craft assessment tools anchored on Bloom’s Taxonomy and the different levels of cognitive demand. The activities encouraged participants to develop assessments that promote higher-order thinking skills among learners.

On Day 3, participants enthusiastically engaged in the session on Introduction to Action Research facilitated by Dr. Rosart Jan RJ Sampaga . Teachers were introduced to the fundamentals of action research and were guided in preparing simple action research capsules that may later serve as interventions to address classroom challenges and improve learner outcomes.

The three-day training program culminated in the afternoon with the awarding of certificates of participation to the participants in recognition of their active involvement and commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.

Indeed, the activity became a meaningful avenue for collaboration, innovation, and capacity building among the teaching force of Tanquigan Elementary School as the school continues its commitment to excellence in education.
