In celebration of Lung Month, the Department of Health Treatment and Rehabilitation Center - La Union (DOH TRC-LU) conducted an information and education session on Tuberculosis (TB) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) among Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at BJMP Bauang on August 19, 2026.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Rachelle G. Batalla, Medical Officer III, highlighting the importance of early recognition of symptoms, prevention, proper treatment, and healthy respiratory practices. The activity aims to strengthen awareness and promote better lung health among the PDL community.

JUST IN: Today, August 18, 2026, the Department of Health Treatment and Rehabilitation Center - La Union (DOH TRC-LU), led by Chief of Hospital III Dr. Marvin F. Munar, signed a strategic Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agrarian Reform Provincial Office - La Union (DARPO-La Union), headed by Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Mrs. Christianne Castillejos-Suguitan.

This partnership aims to expand the center’s essential programs and services, bringing holistic wellness and sustainable development to broader sectors across the province.

Together, DOH TRC-LU and DARPO-La Union reaffirm their shared commitment to uplifting lives and building healthier, more resilient communities!

Honoring Leadership Excellence: Congratulations, Dr. Marvin F. Munar!

DOH TRC-La Union congratulates Dr. Marvin F. Munar, for receiving a Certificate of Commendation and an official recognition badge—the first awarded under the administration of RD Julius M. Paderes of PDEA Regional Office I, in the joint DOH TRC-LU and PDEA flag raising ceremony on August 17, 2026.

Dr. Munar’s recognition reflects steadfast commitment and our Center’s strong partnership with PDEA in advancing drug demand reduction, treatment, rehabilitation, and community-based prevention across the region.

DOH TRC-La Union Strengthens Data Privacy and Information Security Awareness

DOH Treatment and Rehabilitation Center–La Union participated in the 2nd Batch of the DOH Data Privacy Caravan 2026, held on August 3–7, 2026 at The Glory Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. The training was conducted by the DOH Data Privacy and Protection Unit (DPPU), with the DOH Central Luzon Center for Health Development as host. DOH TRC-La Union was represented by Mr. Lucky Jay T. Untalasco (Administrative Officer V) and Atty. Karlo A. Concubierta (Attorney III).

The five-day activity strengthened participants’ knowledge and practical understanding of the Data Privacy Act of 2012, Privacy Impact Assessment, privacy notices and the rights of data subjects, personal data breach management, and cybersecurity awareness.

The learnings will be applied in the workplace to further strengthen the protection and responsible handling of patients’, clients’, and employees’ personal and sensitive personal information, supporting TRC-La Union’s commitment to privacy, confidentiality, and information security.

𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬-𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐏𝐑) 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving emergency procedure that significantly increases the survival rate of individuals experiencing cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies.

As part of the DOH Treatment and Rehabilitation Center La Union (DOH TRC-LU) commitment to promoting a safe and prepared healthcare environment, the Center conducted a Hands-Only CPR awareness activity for its male and female residential patients to provide them with essential knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively during emergencies for their families and communities, especially during their reintegration program.

This activity supports the enhancement of emergency preparedness, strengthens institutional disaster resilience, and promotes a culture of safety within the Center, specifically for residential patients. The endeavor was facilitated by the DOH Center for Health Development (CHD) Ilocos, headed by Dr. Magnolia I. Brabante, head of the Health Emergency Management Unit (HEMU). The activity was simultaneously conducted in separate venues for male and female residents.

The highlight of the discussion was outlined following the Department of Health (DOH) CPR framework with the acronym 𝐒.𝐀.𝐆.𝐈.𝐏.:
𝐒 – Survey the scene and check the situation.
𝐀 – Assess the victim.
𝐆 – Get help by calling 911 or your local emergency hotline.
𝐈 – Initiate chest compressions.
𝐏 – Place the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), if available.

Part of the activity was also the actual demonstration of CPR by the participants using a dummy patient.

This successful activity was coordinated by the DOH TRC-LU DRRM-H team, led by Manager Mr. Jeomar G. Balao-as and Assistant Manager Dr. Rachelle Batalla. The session wrapped up with closing remarks from Dr. Brendel I. Fabia, Chief Health Program Officer (CHPO) and Hospital Safety Index (HSI) Point Person.
