Conducting Fire Extinguisher Familiarization Training ensures individuals can confidently respond to small, early-stage fires while prioritizing their safety.

The industry standard for operating a portable fire extinguisher is the T. P.A.S.S. Technique:

T – TWIST the pin
 The safety pin is often sealed with a tamper tag or wire, so twisting helps break the seal.

P – PULL the pin
 Hold the extinguisher upright and pull the safety pin located at the top.
 This breaks the tamper seal and prepares the extinguisher for use.

A – AIM at the base of the fire
 Point the nozzle or hose toward the base (the source of the flames), not the flames themselves.

S – SQUEEZE the handle
 Firmly squeeze the handles together to release the extinguishing agent.

S – SWEEP from side to side
 Sweep the nozzle side to side at the base of the fire until it is completely out.
