𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦: 𝐀 𝟔𝟎-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐎𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐃𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐧 ❣️

The patient was admitted to the Medical Ward of Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center and was referred to the Medical Social Work Department for 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. The patient is originally from the Province of Samar; due to personal circumstances experienced as a child, she was forced to work in Manila and later transferred to Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, where she worked as a house helper for decades. Upon reaching the age of 60, her health declined, requiring repeated hospital admissions. During her final admission, her employers expressed that they could no longer care for her due to work commitments and decided she could not return home.

𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚​, as the assigned medical social worker, gathered information and assessed the patient. He conducted psychosocial counseling with both the patient and her employers to explore reintegration. Efforts to locate the patient's relatives through coordination with MSWD Mondragon, Samar were also exhausted, but to no avail. Given the patient’s current condition, institutional placement was seen as the best remedy; hence, the assigned social worker, together with other social workers, searched for institutions or centers that would welcome the patient.

By God’s grace and through the 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 of the Medical Social Work Department staff, the patient secured shelter at the Missionaries of Charity in Lucao, Dagupan City. On January 6, 2026, with the assistance of 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐍𝐲𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟-𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐓𝐑𝐌𝐂, the patient found her new home at the said institution.

​The patient strongly believes that even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.

𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓-𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘✨

In line with the hospital’s 8-Point Action Agenda 2, “Ligtas, Dekalidad at Mapagkalingang Serbisyo,” the Medical Social Work Department (MSWD) conducted its 2-day Capability Building and Year-End Program Review last December 18-19,2025 (in 2 batches), to strengthen the delivery of quality psychosocial services. The activity served as a platform to assess program performance, enhance professional competencies, and promote the mental well-being of medical social workers who play a vital role in holistic, patient-centered care.

Anchored on the theme “Bridging Gaps, Building Strengths: Capability Enhancement, Program Review, and Recalibrating Mental Health of the Staff,” the program highlighted the department’s commitment to continuous quality improvement, alignment with DOH standards, and support for staff resilience amid evolving healthcare demands. Through reflective discussions, program evaluation, and strategic planning, Staff identified strengths, addressed service gaps, and developed action plans aligned with institutional goals and national health priorities.

The initiative also emphasized mental health, self-care, and work-life balance, ensuring a motivated, competent, and compassionate MSWD team ready to face the challenges of the coming year while upholding safe, quality, and caring social services for patients and their families. 🫶🏻

Our Breast Cancer Awareness Month Lecture, organized by the Medical Social Work Department in collaboration with the Oncology Department and KASILLAG oncology group, has successfully concluded.✊🏻
