Personnel of Regional Training Centerโ€“La Union participated in the Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony on 06 July 2026 in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award.

The activity was spearheaded by the Director, RTC La Union, LCDR CHARIBEL P SAMERA PCG, and included the reading of the approved National Task Forceโ€“West Philippine Sea Statement and the presentation of the Official Commemorative Audio-Visual Presentation.

In her message, LCDR SAMERA PCG emphasized the continuing relevance of the Arbitral Award to the nationโ€™s maritime rights and to the lives of ordinary Filipinos.

โ€œThe West Philippine Sea is not just an issue on the map or in the news. It is connected to our fishermen, our food supply, our natural resources, our maritime security, and our dignity as Filipinos,โ€ she said.

RTC La Union joined the Philippine Coast Guard in reaffirming its commitment to patriotism, professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of the countryโ€™s seas, sovereignty, and sovereign rights.

Did you know? The Saturday Inspection is more than just a weekly cleaning activity or routine inspection. It is a long-standing military tradition aimed at promoting discipline, accountability, attention to detail, and operational readiness among personnel and trainees.

Through the inspection of barracks, classrooms, offices, equipment, and surrounding areas, both personnel and trainees develop habits of cleanliness, responsibility, and professionalism that are essential in military service. This practice reinforces the principle that discipline in small tasks contributes to excellence in larger missions and operations.

In the military and the Philippine Coast Guard, Saturday Inspection serves as a reminder that readiness begins with discipline, and discipline begins with attention to detail.

In observance of Philippine National Arbor Day and in support of environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives, personnel of RTC La Union actively participated in the Tree Planting Activity conducted on 25 June 2026 at the La Union Botanical and Zoological Garden, Brgy. Cadaclan, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The activity gathered various government agencies and partner stakeholders, including the Local Government Unit (LGU) of the City of San Fernando, La Union, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), in a collective effort to promote reforestation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental stewardship through the planting of various fruit-bearing tree species.

Through this meaningful initiative, RTC La Union reaffirmed its commitment not only to excellence in training and professional development but also to programs and activities that contribute to the protection and preservation of the environment. The event likewise highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation and shared responsibility in addressing environmental challenges and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

By participating in this endeavor, RTC La Union personnel and demonstrated that service to the nation extends beyond the fulfillment of duty and includes active involvement in community and environmental initiatives that foster resilience, ecological awareness, and sustainable development.

๐ˆ๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’: The Regional Training Center La Union, together with the members of Coast Guard Non-Officersโ€™ Course (CGNOC) Class 121-2026, participated in an informative lecture conducted by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) at Coast Guard District Northwestern Luzon Covered Court.

The lecture was facilitated by ENGR. Jess Avel B. Siares of MARINA, who delivered a comprehensive discussion on the agency's mandate, functions, and vital role in promoting the safety, security, and sustainability of the Philippine maritime industry. The session provided the trainees with valuable knowledge on maritime regulations, vessel standards, and the importance of compliance with national and international maritime policies.

The activity aimed to strengthen the participantsโ€™ understanding of the maritime sector and enhance their professional competence as future Coast Guard personnel. It also highlighted the significance of interagency cooperation in ensuring maritime safety, environmental protection, and the efficient implementation of maritime laws and regulations.

Through learning engagements such as this, RTC La Union continues to develop disciplined, knowledgeable, and mission-ready Coast Guard personnel equipped with the skills and understanding necessary to effectively carry out their duties in support of maritime safety, security, and public service.
