Ang Gitnang Luzon ang nakapagbibigay ng pinakamaraming palay sa buong bansa, dahilan para ituring ang rehiyon bilang isa sa mga nangunguna pagdating sa sektor ng agrikultura. Bukod sa palay, sa rehiyon din nagmumula ang ilan sa mga pangunahing ani ng bansa tulad ng sibuyas ng Nueva Ecija, ang mangga ng Zambales, ang mais ng Tarlac, ang mga gulay at livestock ng Pampanga, ang buko at yamang-dagat

ng Aurora, ang livestock at tilapia ng Bulacan at ang kasoy at poultry ng Bataan. Ilan lamang po ang mga ito sa mga natatanging itinatampok ng Gitnang Luzon, ang rehiyong kinikilala bilang โ€œCentral Plain of Luzonโ€ at โ€œRice Granary of the Philippinesโ€.

The April to June 2026 volume of palay production was recorded at 4.63 million metric tons, reflecting a 5.7% annual increase from the 4.38 million metric tons output registered in the same quarter of 2025.

This is the highest recorded volume of palay production for the same period since 1987.

FHI 360, through the EpiC Global Health Security (GHS) project, paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Executive Director, Dr. Eduardo L. Lapuz, Jr, of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III.

The team introduced the One Health Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Genomic Surveillance initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM). The visit also aimed to assess the laboratory capacity and readiness of the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) III for the pilot implementation of the One Health HPAI Genomic Surveillance Program, should Central Luzon be selected as one of the pilot sites.

This engagement reflects the partners' shared commitment to strengthening multisectoral collaboration and building a more coordinated and resilient genomic surveillance system for emerging zoonotic diseases in the Philippines.
