The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Pilar, has donated 10 cubic meters of confiscated timber to the Bataan Police Provincial Office to support the construction and improvement of police facilities.

Marivic Santos, head of CENRO Pilar, said the timber will be used to build and upgrade the 1st District Provincial Mobile Force Company police bases and barracks in Balanga City, as well as in San Pablo, Dinalupihan, and Hermosa towns.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the lawful disposition of confiscated forest products reflects the agency's commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource management.

โ€œBy redirecting seized timber to legitimate government projects, we are maximizing the use of recovered resources while supporting initiatives that strengthen public service and community safety,โ€ Pablo said.

The donation was formalized through the signing of a Deed of Donation in Pilar, Bataan, and was accepted by Force Commander Police Lt. Col. Elias Tait. (-30-)

More than 300 seedlings now line the Maasinโ€“Dueg Road in Mayantoc, Tarlac, following a tree planting activity led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Camiling, in partnership with ELECTA Tarlac Aggregate Corporation.

Amalia Fajardo, head of CENRO Camiling, reported that the activity resulted in the planting of 200 narra, 15 dao, and 100 vetiver seedlings. These species were carefully selected for their ability to stabilize soil, reduce erosion, enhance biodiversity, and help restore native forest cover along the roadside.

"The initiative forms part of the DENRโ€™s continuing efforts to address climate change by increasing carbon sequestration and building more resilient landscapes," Fajardo said.

The DENR will regularly monitor the planted seedlings to ensure their survival and healthy growth, reinforcing its commitment to long-term forest restoration and environmental protection. (-30-)

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo led the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with eight new adopters and one renewal adopter, covering a total of 351.76 hectares of ENGP sites in the municipalities of Mayantoc and San Clemente.

The new adopters include Farm To Cup Philippines Association Inc., Forestcape Corporation, Jesus is the Lord Presbyterian Church Inc., and several private individuals.

โ€œThe initiative strengthens the governmentโ€™s reforestation efforts by encouraging private organizations and individuals to take an active role in maintaining and protecting rehabilitated forestlands beyond the initial planting phase,โ€ Pablo said.

DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Jowell Dellosa said the adopters will undertake the maintenance, protection, and rehabilitation of their respective sites and ensure a minimum seedling survival rate of 85 percent.

Dellosa added that rehabilitation activities will include the establishment of bamboo, agroforestry species, and native forest trees to improve biodiversity and strengthen ecosystem resilience.

The DENR, for its part, will provide technical assistance, monitoring, and capacity-building activities to support the implementation of the adoption program.

Pablo said the ENGP contributes not only to forest restoration but also to climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

He emphasized that protecting the countryโ€™s natural resources is a shared responsibility that requires the sustained participation of government agencies, private institutions, and local communities.

Also present during the signing ceremony were Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Amalia Fajardo of Camiling and other DENR officials. (-30-)

According to Marife Castillo, provincial head of the DENR in Zambales, the initiative, led by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Masinloc, rehabilitated a 14.37-hectare site under the graduated National Greening Program (NGP) and formed part of the nationwide launch of the PRC '143 Luntian' tree-growing and ecosystem stewardship program.

A total of 500 narra and 500 agoho seedlings were planted through two tree-growing activities participated in by 108 volunteers from the Philippine Red Cross, DENR, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine National Police, indigenous peoples, and other local partners.

Donaver Guevarra, head of the DENR community office in Masinloc, reported reported that 108 volunteers planted 1,000 indigenous tree seedlings through a two-phase tree-growing activity, respectively establishing 500 narra and 500 agoho seedlings in the project site.

Guevarra added that the planting materials were sourced from replacement seedlings under a Special Tree Cutting Earth-balling Permit, supporting forest restoration under the graduated NGP and community-based conservation efforts.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the initiative demonstrates that investing in forests is equally an investment in public safety and community resilience.

โ€œDisaster resilience begins long before calamities occur. By restoring our forests today, we are reducing future risks while securing cleaner water, healthier ecosystems, and a safer environment for our communities. This partnership reflects how collective action can create lasting solutions to the challenges posed by climate change,โ€ Pablo said.

The activity supports DENR's continuing implementation of the NGP through multi-sectoral partnerships that promote forest restoration, environmental protection, and climate resilience. (-30-)

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) safely rescued a 15-year-old female saltwater crocodile (๐˜Š๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜บ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ถ๐˜ด) after a concerned citizen reported its presence in Barangay San Agustin, Magalang, Pampanga.

The Wildlife and Water Resources Management Section and the Forest Protection, Surveillance and Intelligence Section of the DENR provincial office in Pampanga, in coordination with the barangay officials of San Agustin, immediately conducted a rescue operation to safely secure the crocodile.

Roger Encarnacion, provincial head of DENR in Pampanga, reported that the crocodile measured approximately 3.10 meters in length and was found to be in good condition following an assessment.

โ€œTo ensure the safety of both the animal and the public, the rescued crocodile was transported and turned over to the Global Zoo and Theme Park Alliance Inc., an accredited wildlife rescue center located inside the Clark Freeport Zone,โ€ Encarnacion said.

He added that the facility will provide the crocodile with veterinary assessment, proper care, and rehabilitation in accordance with established wildlife conservation standards.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the successful rescue underscores the importance of public vigilance and community participation in wildlife conservation.

โ€œThe responsible action of the concerned citizen allowed our personnel to respond promptly and ensure the safe rescue of the crocodile. This incident highlights how cooperation between the public, local government units, and the DENR contributes to protecting both wildlife and communities,โ€ Pablo said.

He reminded the public that wild animals should never be captured, harmed, or kept as pets, emphasizing that trained personnel are equipped to respond safely to wildlife encounters.

โ€œWe encourage everyone to immediately report sightings of wild animals to the nearest DENR office or local government authorities. Timely reporting enables us to take the appropriate action while ensuring the safety of both the public and the wildlife,โ€ Pablo added.

Although listed as a species of Least Concern under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, the saltwater crocodile remains protected under Republic Act No. 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, which promotes the conservation and protection of the countryโ€™s native wildlife species and their habitats. DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Olongapo City Head Edward Sernadilla said the crocodiles were safely turned over to Zoobic Safari following the operation.

โ€œFollowing the extraction, the crocodiles were turned over to Zoobic Safari, where they will undergo a comprehensive veterinary assessment, receive specialized medical care, and be placed under long-term management in a secure facility designed for large reptiles,โ€ Sernadilla said.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo underscored the importance of collaboration in conserving threatened wildlife while ensuring compliance with environmental laws.

โ€œThis successful operation reflects the value of strong collaboration in protecting our countryโ€™s wildlife. We remain committed to enforcing our environmental laws while ensuring the welfare of threatened species through proper conservation measures. We also remind the public that wildlife must only be kept and managed in accordance with Republic Act No. 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, to protect both biodiversity and public safety,โ€ Pablo said.

The DENR reiterated that Republic Act No. 9147 strictly regulates the possession, transport, and maintenance of wildlife. Individuals and institutions keeping wildlife must continuously comply with government regulations to uphold animal welfare, conserve biodiversity, and protect public safety. (-30-)
