In celebration of National Women's Month, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Jose de Buan, Samar led a successful event at the Municipal Covered Court yesterday, March 25, 2025. This year's theme, "Babae sa lahat ng sektor, aangat ang bukas sa bagong Pilipinas," emphasizes the importance of women's participation and empowerment in all sectors of society.
The event featured a lineup of informative discussions and inspiring talks from esteemed guest speakers. Ms. Pamela Joy Adejas from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Samar shared her insights on women's empowerment and leadership, with a focus on addressing Violence Against Women (VAW). Meanwhile, Ms. Jethca Tan from the Rural Health Unit (RHU) discussed the importance of Breast Self-Examination (BSE), emphasizing the need for early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
Representatives from Philhealth also graced the event, discussing the benefits of becoming a Philhealth member, particularly for senior citizens and indigent individuals. The discussion highlighted the importance of access to quality healthcare, especially for vulnerable sectors.
The event was well-attended by women from various barangays and sectors, including 4Ps beneficiaries and LGU employees. The attendees actively participated in the discussions and shared their own experiences and insights.
To make the event even more special, a representative from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) serenaded the women with music. The Philippine National Police (PNP) also provided a haircut service, "Libreng Gupit Sagot ni Chief," while the MSWDO offered manicure-pedicure, free haircut, and free massage services.
The celebration also featured various contests, including singing, dance, and slogan-making competitions.
This event is a recognition of the vital role that women play in our society, and we hope that it will inspire and empower them to become agents of positive change in their communities.
