More than 100 participants, composed of hog raisers, barangay officials, and officers and members of the Bontol Hog Raisers Association (BHRA), successfully participated in the Training on Swine Production, Disease Prevention, and Control held on July 17, 2026 at the Bontol Covered Gym, Brgy. Bontol, Sibalom, Antique.
The training aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge on proper swine production practices, identify common swine diseases with emphasis on African Swine Fever (ASF), and promote effective disease prevention, control, and biosecurity measures. Other animal diseases, proper feeds and feeding, and biosecurity protocols were also discussed to help ensure healthier and more productive livestock.
The activity featured informative lectures from Dr. Enrique Sanchez, Jr. and Mr. Joel Opiña, with the presence of Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Florencio M. Macuja, who reaffirmed the Provincial Government's commitment to supporting the livestock sector.
The Bontol Hog Raisers Association (BHRA) is one of the recipients of the Provincial Government of Antique's Livelihood Assistance Program for swine production, making this training an important component in ensuring the success and sustainability of their livelihood project.
The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian also distributed forage crop seedlings, brochures and flyers on swine raising, feeds and feeding, African Swine Fever (ASF), biosecurity measures, and vitamin supplements to the farmer-participants.
The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian extends its sincere appreciation to Punong Barangay Hon.
