The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) intensified its support for solo parents, recognizing their vital role and the sacrifices they make in raising families and sustaining communities.
On May 15, 2026, the CSWDO will hold a city-wide celebration at the Agdao Farmers Market in recognition of the invaluable sacrifices and contributions of solo parents to the community. The whole-day event is expected to gather 250 to 300 solo parents from across the city’s 15 districts, alongside their organizations and support groups.
Karla Quintela, CSWDO Solo Parent Focal Person said that the celebration will feature capability-building activities focused on mental health, recreational activities, and an Interpretative Dance friendly competition.
“Sa tanang solo parent sa lain-laing barangay diria sa Davao City, welcome kaayo mu mag tap sa atoang mga solo parent federation president kung gusto mo muapil sa atoang city wide celebration diri sa dakbayan, so welcome kaayo mo and free na siya (To all solo parents from different barangays here in Davao City, you are very welcome to meet with our solo parent federation president if you want to join our citywide celebration here in the city, you are very welcome and it's free),” she told Serbisyo Dabawenyo: City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) over Davao City Disaster Radio on April 27, 2026.
She added that there are 7,819 registered and active solo parents in Davao City.
Under Executive Order No. 25, Series of 2024, qualified solo parents are entitled to a monthly cash subsidy of Php 1,000 to augment their income.
“Katong wala pa ka renew or gusto mag apply, please update namo. Ilabi na katong qualified sa solo parent monthly subsidy. Aside sa subsidy naa ta'y mga benefits labi na kadtong sa mga employed gina practice ang parental leave, 7 days. Doul lang mo sa pinaka doul kung asa pabor ang inyohang resident, get an orientation and submit your requirements (To those who have not yet renewed or wanted to apply, please update, especially those who qualify for the solo parent monthly subsidy. Aside from the subsidy, we have benefits, especially for those who are employed, where parental leave is practiced for 7 days. Just go to the barangay, get an orientation, and submit your requirements),” she added.
Other than the subsidy, the CSWDO also provides parenting effectiveness and responsible parenthood programs, productivity skills training in collaboration with TESDA, pre-marriage orientation and counseling and crisis intervention assistance.
Quintela underscored that solo parents can confidently approach social workers at their barangays or district offices and reassured that social workers are professionally trained to handle disclosures with strict confidentiality.
“Pwede kaayo mo maka doul sa atoang mga social workers open na sila from 8 to 5 sa CSWDO district office. Kay naa lang kay gusto ishare or disclose, train man atoang mga social workers about confidentiality so dili gyud na nila isocial media (You can easily approach our social workers, they are available from 8 to 5 at the CSWDO district office. Because if you just want to share or disclose something, our social workers are trained about confidentiality so they won't post it on social media),” she said. CIO
