In response to the request of AFHomes Hotspring and Ecofarm Resort, a soon-to-open resort in Calauan, Laguna, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) โ€“ Laguna Provincial Science and Technology Office conducted a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training on April 23, 2026, at the companyโ€™s facility in Brgy. San Juan, Alaminos, Laguna. The training was attended by kitchen staff, food servers, utility personnel, front desk staff, and the supply officer to strengthen food safety awareness and compliance with regulatory standards.

The session covered essential GMP principles, including personnel hygiene, sanitation, process control, equipment maintenance, and proper documentation. Practical examples were presented to help participants apply food safety practices in their daily operations and maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free environment.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Leandro D. Dimatulac, PTA I, and Ms. Michelle C. Pasco, PTA II, members of the Food Safety Team. An interactive Glow Germ activity demonstrated the importance of proper handwashing and sanitation by revealing commonly missed areas through UV light inspection.

An open forum followed the training, allowing participants to raise questions and discuss food safety concerns. Ms. Judith Lardizabal, HRAD Director of AFHomes, further encouraged engagement by inviting participants who achieved perfect post-test scores to share how they would apply their learnings in their respective work areas.

The Department of Science and Technology Provincial Science and Technology Office - Laguna (DOST PSTO-Laguna), in cooperation with DTI Laguna, continues its mission to strengthen local MSMEs by conducting a training on Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) for OTOPreneurs. Held on May 14, 2026 at Km. 75 National Highway, Brgy. Banca-Banca, Victoria, Laguna, the activity gathered 20 MSMEs to enhance their knowledge and readiness in food safety practices.

Project Technical Assistants, Mr. Jherome L. Lusterio and Mr. Leandro D. Dimatulac facilitated the session, beginning with a review of Basic Food Hygiene, Food Safety Hazards, and Current Good Manufacturing Practices. Mr. Dimatulac, a member of the DOST CALABARZON Food Safety Team, emphasized that SSOPs must be tailored to each companyโ€™s facilities, equipment, and processes, covering pre-operational, operational, post-operational, monitoring, and corrective actions.

The training highlighted eight essential hygiene conditions, including safe water, clean food contact surfaces, prevention of cross-contamination, proper handwashing facilities, protection against adulteration, correct labeling, safe use of toxic compounds, employee health monitoring, and pest exclusion. Participants also learned the fundamentals of cleaning and sanitation.

In the workshop, MSMEs developed their own SSOPs addressing equipment, hand wash facilities, water, prevention of cross-contamination, toxic substances, and pest management. Their outputs were presented, evaluated, and refined with feedback from the DOST Laguna team.

This initiative supports the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Program, reinforcing the commitment of DOST and DTI Laguna to empower MSMEs through food safety, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards โ€” enabling OTOPreneurs to thrive in wider markets.

DOST Laguna stands in unity and salutes the National Flag as we officially kick off the National Flag Days!

From May 28 to Independence Day on June 12, 2026, we honor the courage of our heroes who fought at the Battle of Alapan in 1898, where our national standard was first unfurled.

As civil servants, we renew our commitment to serving the public with integrity, patriotism, and scientific excellence.

Quick Flag Protocols for Everyone:

The Salute: Place your right hand over your left chest during the anthem or flag ceremony.

The Display: Ensure the flag is well-lit and never touches the ground or floor.

The Peace Position: Always keep the blue field on top during times of peace.

Starting today, we celebrate the National Flag Days by displaying our National Flag in our homes, schools, and offices in celebration of our nationโ€™s independence.

Ceremonies will be held throughout the country, especially in the following sites:
๐Ÿ“Œ Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat, Alapan, Imus City, Cavite (with City Government of Imus)
๐Ÿ“Œ Rizal Park Luneta, Ermita, Manila (with National Parks Development Committee and Salute To A Clean Flag Movement)
๐Ÿ“Œ NHCP Museo nina Marcela Mariรฑo at Felipe Agoncillo, Taal, Batangas (with Municipality of TAAL)
๐Ÿ“Œ Samonte Park, Cavite City, Cavite (in the afternoon, with City Government of Cavite)

May 28 was selected as the start of the National Flag Days as it is the anniversary of the Battle of Alapan. Filipino revolutionary forces under the overall command of General Emilio Aguinaldo, who returned from exile on 18 May 1898, defeated a large Spanish force at the field of Alapan, Imus, Cavite. In celebration of the victory, Aguinaldo unfurled and showed to the Filipino people for the first time the new National Flag made by Marcela Mariรฑo de Agoncillo in Hong Kong at the Teatro Caviteรฑo in Cavite City.

The new flag, which featured the red and blue fields with a white triangle superimposed by a sun with eight rays and three stars, would become the Flag of the Philippine nation and is the basis for our present-day standard.
