Rain or Shine: NMES Scouts Unite in Two-Day Camp
Despite rainy weather, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Nagrangtayan–Magacan Elementary School (NMES) successfully carried out a two-day school-based joint scouting activity, filled with discipline, teamwork, and life-skills learning.
The activity officially opened with a torch parade around the school campus, where scouts marched while singing scouting songs. Undeterred by the rain, the pupils showed enthusiasm and unity, reflecting the true spirit of scouting.
A meaningful campfire ceremony followed at the school gymnasium. During the program, scouts recited the Scout Promise and Scout Laws, performed yells, and shared incredible team presentations that highlighted their creativity, confidence, and cooperation. The ceremony strengthened camaraderie and reminded the pupils of the core values of scouting.
One of the most memorable experiences for the scouts was sleeping overnight at the school, allowing them to experience independence, responsibility, and teamwork. The pupils also learned to prepare their own meals, with the cook fest emerging as the most exciting part of the activity.
The scouting event featured three major Life Skills Contest sessions.
Session 1: Producing Coconut Milk challenged teams to husk mature coconuts, grate them manually, and squeeze coconut milk by hand.
Session 2: Rice-Cooking tested the scouts’ basic survival skills, as the contestants started a fire using matches and cooked rice for their group using firewood.
Session 3: Dish-Cooking with Coconut Milk allowed group members to prepare a lunch viand using coconut milk as the main ingredient, showcasing their basic cooking skills and teamwork.
Meanwhile, the Star Scouts and Kab Scouts participated in fun and engaging games, strengthening teamwork, agility, and camaraderie among the younger scouts.
Dr. Joey G. Macamus, the school principal, commended the pupils for their determination and participation. “This activity proves that learning goes beyond the classroom. Through scouting, our pupils develop life skills, resilience, and teamwork—qualities that will guide them as responsible individuals in the future,” he said.
The successful conduct of the joint Boy Scout and Girl Scout activity reflected NMES’ commitment to holistic education, proving that even challenging weather cannot hinder meaningful learning, unity, and fun.
