The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Sta. Barbara, in partnership with Ferex Agrochem Development Corporation, successfully conducted a community forum on the importance and science-based proper usage of fertilizers at Barangay Leet on Wednesday.

The activity drew over 200 farmers from four adjacent barangays: Leet, Banzal, Erfe, and Nilombot. Strong grassroots support from local farmer leaders and the full Sangguniang Barangay of Leet ensured smooth registration, organized venue logistics, and high participation from smallholder rice and vegetable growers in the area.

During the discussion, MAO agricultural technicians and Ferex agronomists walked participants through critical topics: matching fertilizer types to specific crops and local soil conditions, correct application rates and timing to boost yields without raising input costs, avoiding over-fertilization that damages soil health and local waterways, and safe handling practices to protect farmers’ health.

The event was hailed as a success by both organizers and attendees, with many farmers noting the session clarified long-held misconceptions about fertilizer application. The MAO of Sta. Barbara emphasized that such public-private extension activities are key to helping local farmers adopt sustainable, income-boosting farming practices amid rising input prices and changing climate conditions.
