PNP INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN VS LOOSE FI****MS, RECORDS OVER 12,000 FI****MS ACCOUNTED NATIONWIDE
The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to strengthen its campaign against loose fi****ms, highlighting not only operational gains but also the growing cooperation of communities in ensuring safer and more secure localities.
From January 1 to April 30, 2026, the PNP recorded a total of 4,038 arrests related to violations on loose fi****ms. During the same period, 12,618 fi****ms were accounted for through confiscation, surrender, and recovery operations under Republic Act 10591, while 1,398 fi****ms were voluntarily turned over for safekeeping and proper disposition.
For April 1 to 30, 2026 alone, 1,045 individuals were arrested and 3,176 fi****ms were accounted for, while 442 fi****ms were voluntarily surrendered, reflecting continued public awareness and cooperation with authorities.
In a recent development in Balanga City, Bataan on the evening of May 4, 2026, a voluntary surrender of assorted fi****ms was facilitated through coordination with local police authorities. The fi****ms—consisting of shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers, and a sub-machine gun—were turned over for verification and safekeeping. The process was carried out peacefully, with the items now under secure police custody pending proper documentation and disposition.
PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., said the increasing number of voluntary surrenders is a clear indication of stronger public trust and shared responsibility in maintaining peace and order.
“Mas nakikita natin ngayon ang kahalagahan ng kooperasyon ng bawat isa. Hindi lang ito trabaho ng kapulisan, kundi sama-samang pagsisikap para mapanatili ang ligtas na komunidad,” he said.
He also emphasized that the campaign supports the broader direction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for safer communities anchored on discipline, law enforcement efficiency, and public cooperation.
As the PNP intensifies its efforts, it also noted that these initiatives are part of its preparation for the 2026 BARMM Parliamentary Elections and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, ensuring that areas nationwide remain secure, orderly, and free from illegal fi****ms that may threaten peaceful democratic processes.
The campaign likewise aligns with the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, reinforcing proactive policing and strengthened community partnership.
As the nation moves closer to the electoral period, the PNP assures the public of sustained efforts to maintain peace and order while respecting rights and due process, in support of the vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
