RECORDING AND UPDATING OF ENDLINE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF LEARNERS AT VSDNHS

On February 26, 2026, Mr. John Michael R. Calderon and Mrs. Joanna Mae D. Dela Cruz officially commenced the recording and updating of the endline nutritional status of learners at Vicenta S. On January 7, 2026, Vicenta S. David National High School successfully carried out the First Round of the National School Deworming Month (NSDM) for School Year 2025–2026. A total of 82 consented students participated in this vital school-based health initiative—19 from Grade 7, 23 from Grade 8, 15 from Grade 9, and 25 from Grade 10. This initiative aimed to protect learners from the harmful effects of intestinal parasites, which can lead to malnutrition, poor concentration, and reduced academic performance if left untreated.

The deworming activity was facilitated by Mrs. Kris Pauline M. Caballes, Nurse II from the Schools Division Office of Laguna. Before the administration of deworming tablets, she delivered a concise yet impactful orientation on the importance of regular deworming. HANDWASHING ACTIVITY STRENGTHENS HYGIENE AWARENESS AT VICENTA

On January 5, 2026, the school organized a handwashing activity for its students as part of a larger initiative to promote proper hygiene and sanitation. The event highlighted the critical importance of regular handwashing as a simple yet highly effective method for preventing the spread of diseases. Teachers and health coordinators worked together to demonstrate the correct handwashing techniques, ensuring that students understood how to clean their hands thoroughly and consistently.

To reinforce the lessons, the school distributed educational materials, including posters and pamphlets, across the campus. These resources served as constant reminders of the importance of good hygiene practices. The initiative extended beyond the school grounds, as it encouraged students to bring these habits home and practice them within their families and communities. The goal was to foster lasting behavioral change in students' daily routines.

Handwashing is widely recognized as a key preventive measure against foodborne illnesses and various infections caused by poor hygiene. By instilling the practice of regular handwashing at an early age, the school hopes to reduce the risk of illnesses within the student population and beyond. The event underscored how small, consistent actions can have a significant impact on health and well-being.

This handwashing drive is a crucial part of the school’s broader commitment to fostering a culture of health and hygiene among its learners. Through continued education and engagement in hygiene-related activities, Santa Cruz Integrated National High School - Gatid Extension aims to safeguard the health of its students, their families, and the wider community.

VSDNHS CONDUCTS RAPID HEEADSSS ASSESSMENT UNDER OKD MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

On October 8, 2025, Nurse Kris Pauline M. Caballes administered a Rapid HEEADSSS Assessment to selected and consented Grade 8 and Grade 9 students of Vicenta S. David National High School as part of the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD) – School Mental Health Program. The HEEADSSS Assessment, a psychosocial written interview framework, is designed to identify risk factors, protective factors, and possible concerns that may influence the overall mental health and well-being of adolescents.

Through this assessment, Nurse Caballes was able to gather essential information about the students’ home environment, academic experiences, daily routines, peer interactions, and emotional health. The activity functioned not only as an early screening tool to detect potential mental health challenges but also as an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of learners’ needs in a safe, supportive, and confidential manner. By facilitating the assessment, the school highlighted its proactive approach to raising mental health awareness and providing timely support services for its students.

This initiative further reflects the Department of Education’s dedication to strengthening the School Mental Health Program by ensuring that learners’ mental and emotional well-being are given equal priority alongside their physical health and academic development. With the efforts of committed health professionals such as Nurse Caballes, the program continues to foster a safe, nurturing, and responsive school environment where students are empowered to grow and succeed not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
