Federated KKDAT-Santa lucia iwasan ng droga!

29/11/2025

During the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Orientation held in celebration of the 2025 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control (DAPC) Week, Dangerous Drugs Board Chairperson - Secretary Oscar Valenzuela delivered a message to the academic community and local partners that refocused attention on one of the most important pillars of prevention: the leadership of young people. He emphasized that learners are individuals with innate strengths, aspirations, and the capacity to safeguard their own future.

He recognized that today’s generation navigates an environment shaped by digital exposure, social expectations, and emotional pressures. These realities, he noted, can influence decision-making in ways that adults sometimes overlook. He reminded the students that choosing what is right, especially in difficult situations, is a sign not only of personal discipline but also of respect for one’s own potential.

Explaining the purpose of BKD Program, he emphasized its role in strengthening young people’s decision-making, promoting supportive peer relationships, and providing accurate information on the risks of substance use. He also encouraged students to care for their mental and emotional well-being, seek help when necessary, and stay connected to peers who uplift and encourage positive choices.

Addressing parents, teachers, and community leaders, Secretary Valenzuela called for consistent communication, compassion, and shared responsibility in creating environments where young people feel guided and understood. He underscored that prevention becomes more effective when support from home, school, and community aligns.
His message affirmed a clear principle: the youth are valued contributors to nation-building. With the right support systems and opportunities to lead, they can navigate pressures, pursue their aspirations, and help shape safer, healthier communities.

Across the country, programs like the BKD continue to cultivate informed and empowered youth leaders. As Secretary Valenzuela emphasized, every young person has the ability to make choices that protect their future, and, in doing so, uplift the nation.

“Every second matters, every call matters, every life matters. This is government fulfilling its promise that help will always be within reach,” giit ni Remulla.

| Lifesaver in your pocket: iPOLICE eBuzz‑ER empowers citizens during disasters

By Rocky E. Bautista

As rains continue to pour across the country due to the intensified southwest monsoon (habagat), many communities are once again bracing for floods, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

In these times, staying connected to emergency services is crucial.

Launched last year, the iPOLICE eBuzz‑ER mobile app by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 1 is proving to be more than just a digital tool—it’s a lifesaver.

Short for Ilocos Region Online Law Enforcement, Investigation, Community Affairs, and Emergencies Electronic Buzz Emergency Response, the app was developed to help both locals and tourists easily access emergency services.

With just a few taps, users can request police assistance, send alerts, and find verified emergency hotlines—all in one place. It’s fast, reliable, and easy to use—even in stressful situations.

One of the app’s standout features is its one-tap emergency hotline. No need to scroll through social media or look for numbers during a blackout or a storm.

Just one press connects users to PRO1 headquarters or any of its four provincial offices in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
