FIRE SAFETY TIPS:
Make sure all family members know what to do in the event of a fire. Draw a floor plan with at least two ways of escaping every room. Make a drawing for each floor. Dimensions do not need to be correct. Make sure the plan shows important details: stairs, hallways and windows that can be used as fire escape routes.

Test windows and doors—do they open easy enough? Are they wide enough. Or tall enough?

Choose a safe meeting place outside the house.

Practice alerting other members. It is a good idea to keep a bell and flashlight in each bedroom.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS: Keep your family safe from home fires

Although deaths and injuries from residential fires have decreased in the past several years, deaths from fires and burns are still the third leading cause of fatal home injuries (CDC). Seventy percent of these deaths are from inhaling smoke. Two-thirds of deaths from home fires occurred in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

Fires are more likely to happen in certain areas or by certain equipment in your house. Be extra careful while you're cooking, smoking, around candles, furnaces, electrical cords and fireplaces, and with children, toddlers and babies nearby.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS: If a fire occurs in your home:

Never open a door that feels hot. Escape another way.
Take the safest route, but if you have to go through smoke, crawl low and under the smoke. Cover your nose and mouth with a moist towel (if possible) or an article of clothing.
Immediately leave your house, and then call for help.
Once you’re out, stay out. Don’t go back in, not even to grab someone else.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS: In case of a pan fire, control the fire by:

Covering the pan with a lid or a bigger upturned pan.
Turn the heat off.
Spray the pot with a fire extinguisher. If you're an employer, consider a fire extinguisher training for your employees to be able to know the proper use of the device.
If you don't have a fire extinguisher handy, douse the burning oil with baking soda.
Never run with a pan fire. You run the risk of spreading the fire further when the oil drips.
Never throw water on the pan—it will splatter the oil and spread the fire, possibly burning you.
Never throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. Flour might look like baking soda, but it's not, so it won't react similarly! One cup of either of these baking products contains the explosive potential of two sticks of dynamite. (Pay special attention this fire safety tip, it can result in third degree burns and even death in some cases.)

FIRE SAFETY TIPS:
10 Fire Safety Rules

1.) Don't play with matches and lighters. If you see matches or a lighter where you can reach them, don't touch them. Go tell a grown up right away.

2.) Ask your parents to install smoke detectors on every floor and in the sleeping areas of your home. Smoke detectors can save lives. Ask your parents to show you where each one is located.

3.) Remind your parents to test your smoke detectors every month. Make sure everyone in your family is familiar with its piercing sound. Teach them that this sound means danger, and they must escape quickly.

4.) When your parents change the time on your clocks for Daylight Savings, ask them to change your smoke alarm batteries. Give it fresh batteries and your smoke alarm will stay awake and watch for fire while you are sleeping.

5.) In case of fire: DON'T HIDE, GO OUTSIDE! Fires are scary, but you should NEVER hide in closets or under beds when there is a fire.

6.) To escape during a fire; Fall & Crawl. It is easier to breath in a fire if you stay low while getting out.Use the back of your hand to test if a door is hot before you open it. If it is hot, try to use another way out.

7.) If your clothes are on fire; Stop, Drop, and Roll until the fire is out. Shout for help, but don't run. Running makes fire burn faster.

8.) Have an escape plan and practice it with your family. Find two ways out of every room in case one way is blocked by fire or smoke. Practice escaping by both routes to be sure windows are not stuck and screens can be taken out quickly.

9.) Choose a meeting place outside, such as a big tree or the end of the driveway, so you will know that everyone has gotten out safely. NEVER go back into a burning building for any reason. If someone is missing, tell the firefighters. They have the clothing and equipment to safely rescue people.

10.) Know your local emergency number. Put stickers and magnets with emergency numbers on your refridgerator and every telephone in the house. If there is a fire at your house, choose one family member to leave your meeting place and call the fire department from a neighbors phone.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS: Escape Plan

Make an escape plan. Draw out a map of the plan and discuss the plan with your family. Remember that every second counts when you are in a fire, so make your escape plan quick and easy. Practice your escape plan every month. Designate an area outside of your home for your family members to meet.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS:Never leave your cooking unattended. Always keep your stove company. Especially if you’re frying something—that’s when things can cross the line in mere seconds. It's one of the simplest fire safety tips, but it's also the leading cause of kitchen fires.

Keep it clean. Keep stove and counter surfaces free of clutter, grease, and especially flammable objects like hairspray, bug spray, or air freshener. In case of an emergency you’ll be able to react faster given the freedom of space.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS: Power our smoke alarms, household items and toys. They can be found in most homes. But these batteries can be a fire hazard if not stored safely or disposed of with care.
