The National Irrigation Administration β Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS) attended the public hearing on the proposed βRamon Fish Supply and Price Stabilization Ordinance of 2026β on May 7, 2026, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Ramon, Isabela. The activity drew fisherfolk, fishpond and fish cage operators, traders, public market vendors, government agriculture officials, cooperatives, barangay agriculture leaders and other stakeholders.
The proposed ordinance, presented by Sangguniang Bayan Member and Committee on Agriculture Chairperson Atty. William B. Vizcarra, aims not only to stabilize fish prices, but also protect the Magat Dam, watershed, and reservoir, and support the livelihood of fisherfolk. As a multipurpose facility managed by the NIA-MARIIS, the Magat Dam continues to provide opportunities not only for farmers but also for fisherfolk engaged in aquaculture activities, including fishpond and fish cage operations, through the water resources from its watershed and reservoir. Suggestions and concerns from fisherfolk and other stakeholders were raised and duly noted by the committee for the improvement of the proposed ordinance.
NIA-MARIIS was represented by Atty. April Joy Siongco, Attorney IV and Technical Staff of the Institutional Development Section, together with Engr. Alfredo M. Flores Jr., Head of the Watershed Management Section of the Dam and Reservoir Division (DRD), accompanied by representatives from the Legal and Fishery Areas of the Division. Through its participation, NIA-MARIIS reaffirmed its commitment to support aquaculture development, protect the Magat Dam and its resources, and uphold its mandate of managing multipurpose irrigation systems to improve agricultural productivity and increase farmersβ income.
