๐Ÿž๏ธ๐Ÿƒ This Tourism Month, weโ€™ll be showcasing the diverse Tourist Attractions of Western Visayas, starting with Sibalom Natural Park in Antique!

This park is home to Panay Island's last lowland rainforest which supplies drinking water to five towns and irrigates 5,500 hectares of rice fields. The park offers guided tours, picnic areas, gazebos, and accommodation. Itโ€™s home to 76 bird species, including the endemic Negros bleeding-heart and rare wildlife like the Visayan spotted deer.

This is Helminthostachys zeylanica (Italicized) which is called in tagalog name as "tungkod-langit" and currently being unnamed in kinaray-a dialect. This plant is somewhat ensembled to the species of ferns called "nito" (Lygodium species) which is more abundant in the vicinities of the park.

DENR Administrative Order No 2017-11 otherwise known as the UPDATED NATONAL LIST OF THREATENED PHILIPPINE PLANTS AND THEIR CATEGORIES dentified the species as CRITICALLY ENDANGERED which means their population is identified to be decreasing and is on the verge of extinction. The guidelines explicitly provides that it shall be unlawful for any person, group, or entity to collect, possess and/or trade wild plant species.

This is only one of the many species of flora present in Sibalom Natural Park that are yet to be discovered and documented.

We express our gratitude to our friends from Co's Digital Flora of the Philippines for being the major source of these vital information. Of course to our Anriquenฬˆa botanist Dr. Julie Barcelona, thank you very much!

Let us continue to protect Sibalom Natural Park! ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿชด๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿชป๐ŸŒณ

According to the book, Birds of Panay, Negros and Cebu published by the Philippine Biology Conservation Foundation Inc. (PBCFI), "Dapay" usually feeds on snakes, lizards, and frogs. They usually survive within the primary lowland forest, secondary forest, and mixed secondary forest and is labeled as ENDEMIC or native to Panay and Negros ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ

The Sibalom Natural Park containing four (4) different forest formations such as Lowland Evergreen Rainforest, Lower Montain Rainforest, Upper Montane Rainforest, and Forest Over Ultramafic Rocks serves as the ideal habitat of this species. Considering the species abundance that serves as food for this predator, Serpent Eagles can usually be observed at any time of the day roaming around the tree canopies hunting for its food. ๐Ÿโ›ฐ๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›
