CEBU CITY β The National Nutrition Council (NNC) continues the collective initiative to fight against malnutrition by implementing Republic Act No. 11148, or the "Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act."
Enacted in 2018, the landmark law prioritizes the health and nutrition of mothers and children during the first 1,000 days of lifeβfrom pregnancy until a child's second birthdayβwhich is recognized as the most critical period for a child's growth and development.
Recognizing this period as the most critical stage of human development, RA 11148 seeks to prevent stunting, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and improve lifelong health outcomes by ensuring access to quality nutrition services, essential health care, breastfeeding support, and age-appropriate complementary feeding, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities.
The National Nutrition Council Region VII leads the implementation of the RA11148 by coordinating nutrition programs with the local government units, partner agencies, and community volunteers nationwide.
Through initiatives such as Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK DSP) and Operation Timbang Plus, the NNC Region 7 monitors those that are nutritionally at risk, pregnant women, and 6 - 23 months old childrenβs nutritional status; as well as deliver nutrition interventions, strengthen maternal and child health services, and equip parents and caregivers with knowledge on proper nutrition and infant feeding practices.
By transforming national policy into community action, NNC 7 helps ensure that every Filipino child receives the nutrition needed to survive, grow, and thrive.
Through sustained collaboration and evidence-based interventions, RA 11148 serves as a cornerstone of the country's commitment to building healthier families, reducing malnutrition, and securing a brighter future for the next generation. // CTU Intern ππ’π³π’π© ππ―π΅πͺπ±π°π³π΅π’
