In preparation for the anticipated effects of the El Niño phenomenon and prevailing dry spell, the MDRRMO Silago conducted a field assessment at Awayon River as part of its ongoing river and creek monitoring and water source mapping.

🔎 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:

✅ Marked reduction in surface water level at the assessment point
✅ Exposed riverbed rocks, indicating reduced water coverage
✅ Presence of visible algae growth along the assessed section

These observations will serve as baseline information for continued monitoring and the development of appropriate preparedness measures and programs, enabling the LGU Silago to anticipate challenges, plan timely interventions, and help protect the community’s access to water amid potential shortages. 💧

In preparation for the anticipated El Niño phenomenon and its potential impacts on local water resources, the LGU Silago, under the proactive leadership of Mayor Lemuel Honor, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), in coordination with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), conducted a field assessment at Lanang River on October 23, 2026. The activity focused on surface water source mapping, water level monitoring, and hazard mapping to establish baseline information on local water conditions, identify potential hazards, and support evidence-based planning for drought preparedness and water resource management.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱
✅ Some portions of the river are showing signs of drying up.
✅ The water level has noticeably decreased, at about one and a half handspans deep at the assessed point.
✅ Algae (lumot) is present on the rocks and in the water.

𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴
We are identifying the hazards linked to the river, such as possible water shortage and effects on water quality, and the barangays and livelihoods that depend on it. Findings will guide the LGU's El Niño preparedness and water conservation plans.

✅ Report low or dried-up rivers, creeks, springs, or wells to your barangay, the MDRRMO, or the MENRO.
✅ Use water responsibly and keep our water sources free of garbage.

By understanding present conditions on the ground, the LGU Silago strengthens its capacity to anticipate challenges, plan appropriate interventions, and protect the community’s access to water.💧

On October 20, 2026, the Ligtas Pinoy Center Validation Team, activated by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) VIII, visited the proposed site for the Ligtas Pinoy Center in Barangay Poblacion District I, Silago, Southern Leyte, for a site inspection.

The activity was led by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) VIII, together with partner agencies, including the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) VIII, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) VIII, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) VIII, and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) VIII. The validation team was assisted by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Municipal Local Government Operations Office (MLGOO), Municipal Engineering Office (MEO), Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), and Municipal Assessor’s Office, working together toward one common goal.

Under the proactive leadership of Mayor Lemuel Honor, the Municipal Government of Silago continues to strengthen disaster preparedness and work toward safe and reliable evacuation facilities for every family in the community.

Demonstrating its strong commitment to public safety, Barangay Tubod, led by Punong Barangay Hon. Danny Rama, actively partnered with the Local Government Unit of Silago, under the proactive leadership of Mayor Lemuel P. Honor, through MDRRMO – Silago, in installing additional road safety signages.

With numerous road accidents recorded in the area, this initiative highlights the barangay’s proactive efforts to prevent accidents, observe traffic rules, reduce speed, and remain vigilant at all times.

Sincere appreciation to Punong Barangay Hon. Danny Rama, Hon. Leonard Silleza committee on DRRM, Barangay Kagawad, the rest of the Barangay Council members, and Barangay Tanods for their dedication, cooperation, and continued efforts toward a safer Barangay Tubod.
