โœจ TUPAD in Action: Building a Cleaner and Greener Socorro! ๐ŸŒฟ

The implementation of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program in the Municipality of Socorro, Surigao del Norte is now in full swing, providing much-needed temporary employment to our local workers while contributing to community development.

Currently, TUPAD beneficiaries are actively engaged in cleaning and sweeping municipal streets, ensuring a cleaner and more organized environment for residents and visitors alike. At the same time, other workers are conducting brushing and tree planting activities along the road from Amira Gas Station to the Socorro Fire Station, helping promote environmental sustainability and roadside beautification.

The TUPAD Program aims to provide emergency employment for displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers, offering them immediate income support while engaging them in community-based projects that create lasting positive impacts.

This initiative is made possible through the unwavering support of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under the leadership of Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, DOLE Caraga Regional Director Atty. Jason Balais, and DOLE Surigao del Norte Field Office Head Ms. May C. Velonta.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Municipal Government of Socorro, headed by Municipal Mayor Riza Rafonselle Taruc - Timcang and Vice Mayor Hon. Dalisay G. Canta, for their strong commitment to programs that uplift the lives of Socorranons.

Special recognition is given to the dedicated DOLE Surigao del Norte Field Office personnel, under the leadership of Ms. Velonta, and the PESO Socorro staff for their tireless efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of this program.

As Socorro continues to grow as a premier tourism destination in the Philippines, initiatives like TUPAD play a vital role in maintaining the municipalityโ€™s cleanliness, environmental integrity, and overall appeal. Through the collective efforts of the community, we are not only creating opportunities but also preserving the beauty that makes Socorro a place worth visiting and experiencing.

๐Ÿ’š Together, we work. Together, we build. Together, we sustain Socorro. ๐Ÿ’š

๐‘๐„๐€๐ƒ | DOLE sets pay rules for Eidโ€™l Fitr

Workers can expect holiday pay as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) issued Labor Advisory No. 4, Series of 2026, prescribing the pay guidelines for employees who will report for work on March 20 in observance of Eidโ€™l Fitr, declared a regular holiday under Proclamation No. 1189, Series of 2026.

According to the advisory, employees who will not report to work shall receive 100% of their wage that day, provided they are on approved leave of absence on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday (basic wage x 100%).

If the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the employeeโ€™s scheduled rest day, they shall still be entitled to holiday pay if they worked or were on approved leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day.

Meanwhile, employees who render work during the regular holiday shall receive 200% of their wage for the first eight hours (basic wage x 200%).

Work performed beyond eight hours shall be paid an additional 30% of their hourly rate on that day (hourly rate of the basic wage x 200% x 130% x number of hours worked).

If the regular holiday also falls on the employeeโ€™s rest day and work is rendered, they shall be paid an additional 30% of the basic wage of 200% (basic wage x 200% x 130%). Overtime work on the same condition shall likewise be paid with an additional 30% of the hourly rate on the said day (hourly rate of the basic wage x 200% x 130% x 130% x number of hours worked).

The Department reminded employers to comply with the prescribed pay rules to ensure the proper payment of wages for employees during declared holidays.

For clarifications, the public is advised to contact the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), call the DOLE Hotline 1349, or coordinate with the DOLE Regional Office in their respective areas. END/JLO

SPES Examination 2026 | Empowering Youth Through Opportunity

On March 12, 2026 at exactly 1:30 PM, the PESO Office successfully conducted the SPES Examination at the Municipal Gymnasium for aspiring applicants who wish to avail of the summer job opportunity under the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).

The activity was led by our dedicated PESO Manager Engr. Dante P. Dizon, with the support of Mabungahong Officials headed by our Municipal Mayor hon. Riza Rafonselle T. Timcang.

A total of 398 aspiring applicants from different schools participated in the examination, reflecting the eagerness of our youth to strive for a better future through education and employment.

We would like to inform everyone that only 33 slots are available for this program. The selection of beneficiaries will be based on the following criteria: applicants must be deserving students, with priority given to those whose parents have below-average income, must have no failing grades, and must be students of BGFC or incoming enrollees who will enroll at BGFC in the upcoming school year.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support and leadership of our Municipal Mayor hon. Riza Rafonselle T. Timcang, together with the Sangguniang Bayans, also to our DOLE Field Office Head Ms. May C. Velonta, and DOLE Regional Director Atty. Jesson Balais.

Together, we continue to open doors of opportunity and build a brighter future for the youth of our municipality.
