The Local Government Unit of Sogod, through the Municipal Agricultural Services Office (MASO), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture – Eastern Visayas Region VIII, successfully conducted the Jackfruit Seedlings Distribution for the Sogod Five Farmers Association on May 28, 2026.

A total of 1,500 quality sweet jackfruit variety seedlings under the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) were distributed to registered members of the association. This initiative aims to strengthen agricultural productivity, enhance farmers’ livelihood opportunities, and provide additional sources of income through the promotion of quality fruit-bearing crops in the municipality.

The activity reflects the continued commitment of the Department of Agriculture and the Local Government Unit of Sogod in supporting sustainable agricultural development and improving the economic welfare of local farmers.

The Local Government Unit of Sogod through the Sogod Rural Health Unit and Birthing Facility successfully conducted a Field Health Rounds activity last May 26, 2026, bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community.

More than 300 constituents of BHS Consolacion (consist of 7 barangays namely, Consolacion, Javier, La Purisima Concepcion, Mac, Mahayahay, Maria Plana, and Salvacion) participated in the activity and benefited from free health services including medical consultations, provisions of medicines and maintenance for HPN and DM Patients, NCD risk assessment, cervical cancer screening (visual inspection and acetic acid), blood typing, eye examination, tooth extraction, free circumcision, distribution of toilet bowls, and health education campaigns.

This initiative also highlighted the celebration of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Hypertension Awareness Month, and Road Safety Month, promoting preventive healthcare, early detection, and responsible community wellness.

With the support of Municipal Mayor Sheffered Lino S. Tan, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Marc Florendo B. Mato, Dr. Johnry Ojas – DTTB, Barangay Captains of 7 barangays and its representatives, Dr. Catalino Jadoc, and Dr. Ligtas (Dentist), the activity became a meaningful step toward accessible and quality healthcare for all.

As part of the collaborative initiative of the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), the Local Government Unit of Sogod, through the Municipal Agricultural Services Office, received Hybrid Coconut Seedlings which were distributed to a total of 57 registered coconut farmers from Brgy. LP Concepcion, Magatas, and San Juan on May 21, 2026 at Brgy. La Purisima Concepcion, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

Present during the distribution were Municipal Mayor Sheffered Lino S. Tan, Provincial Governor Damian G. Mercado, Vice Governor Rosa Emilia G. Mercado, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Virgilio A. Mortera, Sangguniang Bayan Member Rufo C. Olo, Provincial Director of Philippine Coconut Authority Irish Grace S. Oja, and Brgy. LP Concepcion Captain Avelina B. Miole, together with other Barangay Officials.

This continued distribution effort emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to providing agricultural support services, ensuring that Sogod’s farmers receive the resources they need to improve production and secure a more resilient livelihood.
