SOLANA INTENSIFIES RABIES PREVENTION DRIVE, VACCINATES 1,795 DOGS AND CATS

In observance of World Rabies Day 2026, the Local Government Unit of Solana, under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Meynard Z. Carag, CPA, through the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist, conducted a four-day Rabies Vaccination and Awareness Campaign from September 29 to October 2, 2026.

The campaign covered eight barangays, including Basi East, Calamagui, Iraga, Bauan West, Bauan East, Cadaanan, Ubong, and General Balao, reaching 1,035 pet owners and successfully vaccinating a total of 1,795 dogs and cats.

Alongside the vaccination activities, Rabies Awareness Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) sessions were conducted for Grades 4–6 pupils at Basi Elementary School, Solana South Central School, Iraga Elementary School, Bauan Elementary School, Cadaanan Elementary School, Ubong Elementary School, and General Balao Elementary School.

The sessions equipped young learners with essential information on rabies prevention, responsible pet ownership, and the proper actions to take following an animal bite or scratch, helping promote awareness at an early age and encouraging children to share these important lessons with their families and communities.

The activity was made possible through the support and cooperation of the Provincial Veterinary Office of Cagayan, together with student on-the-job trainees (OJTs) from the Cagayan State University – College of Veterinary Medicine.

Through sustained vaccination and community education, LGU Solana continues to promote responsible pet ownership and strengthen efforts toward a rabies-free and safer community.
