SSLG President Eugene B. Deniega is elected as Junior City Councilor for the Sorsogon City East District during the Election of Boys and Girls Little Officials held at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall in Sorsogon City as part of the celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan 2026.

As one of the elected Junior City Officials, Deniega will attend the Oath-Taking Ceremony of the Boys and Girls Little Officials on August 10, 2026, which will be graced by Hon. Ma. Esther E. Hamor, City Mayor.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, Deniega will participate in an immersion program from August 10 to 14, 2026, where he will gain firsthand experience and a deeper understanding of local government operations, leadership, and public service.

His election as Junior City Councilor highlights his leadership and active participation in youth affairs, providing him with an opportunity to represent the youth of the Sorsogon City East District and contribute to initiatives that promote meaningful youth engagement in local governance.

One of Buhatan National High School's meaningful activities in celebration of Nutrition Month 2026 was the Quiz Bee Contest.

The event was held on July 24, 2026, at the school's library, with learners from Grades 7 to 12 participating.

Each team was composed of students from different grade levels to promote fair competition, teamwork, and camaraderie.

The Quiz Bee was facilitated by Julia D. Dioneda, English Teacher, and Cely Mae L. Barrozo, proponent of the Nutrition Month 2026 Celebration.

The contest gauged the learners' knowledge and cognitive skills on healthy lifestyles and nutritious foods while also fostering collaboration and sportsmanship.

Buhatan National High School (BNHS) participated in the National Deworming Month (NDM), observed every January and July under the Department of Health (DOH).

Learners were served hot rice porridge before taking the albendazole tablet. The snacks were prepared by the Grade 12 Kitchen Operations learners under the supervision of Annabelle S. Hapita and Robert J. Discaya.

The deworming activity was facilitated by John Jay S. Hermosa, Nurse II, together with Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) Laura Jersey and Sunshine H. Doncillo. They were assisted by Agustin P. Cabreros, School Nurse Designate, and Roselyn D. Baloloy, JHS Coordinator.

The activity was also graced by Maria Theresa L. de Ramon, Public Schools District Supervisor for the Sorsogon Secondary Cluster.

The activity was conducted in accordance with DOH Administrative Order No. 2006-0028, which institutionalized the national synchronized schedule for mass deworming of school-aged children.

The program aims to prevent intestinal worm infections by providing free, safe, and effective deworming medicine to children in schools and communities.

The activity was successfully conducted under the leadership of School Principal Lalaine L. Jarical.

Buhatan National High School (BNHS) learners participated in the Essay Writing Contest on July 22, 2026, as part of the school's Nutrition Month Celebration.

With this year's theme, "Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan," learners wrote essays about the importance of proper nutrition, eating healthy foods, and protecting the environment.

To align with the Three-Term School Calendar, the contest was conducted and integrated during the English class period.

Buhatan National High School (BNHS) successfully conducted its 2nd General Assembly on July 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the school's Function Hall.

The program began with the registration of parents, HPTA and SPTA officers, and invited guests. The registration was facilitated by the SSLG officers under the supervision of Roselyn D. Baloloy, JHS Coordinator.

This was followed by the opening preliminaries, including the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the DepEd Prayer.

School Principal Lalaine L. Jarical formally welcomed the participants through her opening message. During her address, she reaffirmed the Department of Education's Vision, Mission, and Core Values, emphasizing their importance in strengthening the partnership between the school and parents.

The assembly proper commenced with a health orientation led by John Jay S. Hermosa, Nurse II, who discussed the importance of school-based deworming. He explained that the activity is timely as it coincides with the celebration of Nutrition Month. Nurse Hermosa also discussed the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of helminthiasis (parasitic worm infection) and encouraged parents to support the Department of Health's deworming program. He also addressed common misconceptions about albendazole by presenting factual information on its safety and effectiveness.

In addition, he raised awareness on dengue prevention by sharing practical measures to reduce the risk of infection.

Nurse Hermosa was accompanied by Barangay Health Workers Sunshine H. Doncillo and Ma. Zenaida A. Gile.

Meanwhile, Joven L. Mariรฑo, Teacher VI, presented the implementation of the ARAL Mathematics and ARAL Reading programs. He shared the number of learners identified to participate in the intervention programs aimed at improving literacy and numeracy skills. He also presented the proposed implementation of students' School IDs and sought the parents' support and approval.

The outgoing SPTA President, Teresita Derla, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the school community for its unwavering support and cooperation during her term.

The program concluded with the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected SPTA Officers for School Year 2026- 2027, administered by School Principal Lalaine L. Jarical.

Overall, the 2nd General Assembly strengthened the partnership between the school and its stakeholders by providing parents with essential updates on learners' health, academic intervention programs, and other school initiatives.

The program was hosted by Cely Mae L. Barrozo, Teacher III, who served as the master of ceremonies.

The School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) through the School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU) conducted the Learners' Health Assessment and Screening at Buhatan National High School on July 22, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

The activity was conducted in accordance with Division Memorandum No. 176, s. 2025, Guidelines on the Conduct of the Learners' Health Assessment and Physical Examination for School Year 2026โ€“2027 under the Three-Term School Calendar.

Present during the activity were Division Medical Officer II Dr. Maria Luisa D. Antes, Nurse III Carole Anne A. Averilla, Nurse II Monina Selkirk, and Nurse II Ma. Stephanie P. Embile.

Priority was given to Grade 12 learners in preparation for their Work Immersion, followed by Grade 7 learners to ensure they are physically fit and ready for the school year.

The Office of the City Agriculturist supplied vegetable seedlings and seeds to Buhatan National High School in support of the school's Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP).

Eggplants (talong) and tomato (kamatis) seedlings, as well as seeds of radish, string beans (sitao), bottle gourd (upo), okra, and pechay are delivered on July 20, 2026.

The partnership supports the Department of Education's initiatives on food security, proper nutrition, and sustainable agriculture under the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program, as provided in DepEd Memorandum Nos. 095, s. 2018; 223, s. 2016; and 293, s. 2007.

With the celebration of Nutrition Month 2026, the seeds and seedlings will help strengthen the school's garden, providing fresh vegetables while serving as a hands-on learning space for learners.
