SORSOGON PROVINCIAL INTEGRATED COASTAL MANAGEMENT COUNCIL (SPICMC) 3rd QUARTERLY MEETING

July 29, 2026 | SanggunIang Panlalawigan Session Hall

The Sorsogon Provincial Integrated Coastal Management Council, led by PENRO Department Head Daniel P. Jazmin III, acting as the Presiding Officer, successfully conducted its 3rd Quarterly Meeting.

The meeting was attended by key government officials of the province, including the Environment and Natural Resources Officers (ENROs) of the 14 municipalities and 1 city, as well as other invited guests.

The agenda of the meeting focused on:

1. Nature-Based Solutions for Coastal Communities, presented by Ms. Veronica B. Gallanosa – MENRO-Bulusan

2. Declining Supply of Pen Shell (Baluko) in Sorsogon Bay, presented by Mr. Joe E. Apdal—Agricultural Center Chief I from OPAg

3. Results of Coastal Clean-Up Activities Conducted in Selected Coastal Areas of Sorsogon Province, presented by Mr. Clint John R. Padilla from DENR-PENRO.

SORSOGON PROVINCIAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD (SPSWMB) 3rd QUARTERLY MEETING

July 28, 2026 | SanggunIang Panlalawigan Session Hall

The Sorsogon Provincial Solid Waste Management Board, led by PENRO Department Head Daniel P. Jazmin III, acting as the Presiding Officer, successfully conducted its 3rd Quarterly Meeting in accordance with the mandate of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.”

The meeting was attended by Bulusan Mayor Wennie Rafallo-Romano and Sta. Magdalena Mayor Mark Jewery G. Lozano, along with key government officials of the Province, including the Environment and Natural Resources Officers (ENROs) of the 14 Municipalities and 1 City.

The agenda of the meeting focused on:

1. Updates on the Solid Waste Management Plan of each municipality, presented by the EMB;

2. Presentation/Updates on the proposed establishment of a clustered Sanitary Landfill in the Province of Sorsogon; Presented by Engr. Joe Dennis Rodriquez, PGADH PPDO

3. Presentation on the findings and observations re: 7K Champions Evaluation. By: Ms. Annalyn Solayao, EMS I, PENRO

4. Nature-Based Solution as discussed by Bulusan MENRO Vee B. Gallanosa

Today, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO-LGU Sorsogon) proudly participated in a Mangrove Planting Activity held in Barangay Poblacion Central, Barcelona, in celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month.

The activity was initiated by the Local Government Unit of Barcelona through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in collaboration with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Barcelona. Also joining the event were the Barangay Nutrition Scholars in celebration of Nutrition Month, together with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Barcelona, Barangay Official and residents of Poblacion Central.

With the participation of approximately 50 volunteers, a total of 500 Bakauan mangrove seedlings were successfully planted, contributing to the protection and restoration of our coastal ecosystems while enhancing the resilience of our communities against coastal hazards.

This activity also serves as PENRO-LGU Sorsogon's contribution to the observance of the upcoming World Mangrove Day 2026, also known as the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, reaffirming our commitment to conserving mangrove forests and promoting sustainable coastal resource management.

Together, let us continue planting hope, protecting our shores, and building a greener and more resilient future for the generations to come.

On July 17 (Friday), PENRO-LGU successfully conducted its General Meeting, bringing together all employees for a comprehensive review of the office’s ongoing operations and performance.

The plenary session was spearheaded by the PENRO PGDH, who laid out the strategic direction and directives for the upcoming quarter. Following the opening address, the respective Division Chiefs took the floor to present detailed progress reports, project updates, and key deliverables from each administrative and technical section.

Crucial administrative matters, streamlined operational protocols, and strategies for enhanced public service delivery were also thoroughly discussed by the Admin Officer.

Through regular assemblies like this, PENRO remains steadfast in its commitment to operational transparency, internal alignment, and excellent environmental governance.

Bumisita kumakailan ang Hepe ng PENRO LGU Sorsogon sa Municipio ng Castilla Sorsogon para isaayos ang isang reklamo patungkol sa illegal quarry.

Kasama sa pagpupulong na isinagawa si Castilla MENRO Mr. Ricardo Averilla. Matagumpay naman na naayos ang nasabing problema at pinayuhan ng Penro ang mga kinauukulan na kailangan sundin ang mga alituntunin na naka saad sa local na ordinansa pag dating sa pag hakot, hukay at pag alis ng lupa pampubliko man ito o pribado.

PENRO LGU Sorsogon continues to strengthen bamboo propagation efforts through the collection of quality Marurugi bamboo cuttings from various source areas across the province

After collection, the cuttings are carefully prepared, soaked, planted, and regularly monitored inside the nursery to maximize their survival and growth. Continuous soil-bagging, watering, weeding, and nursery maintenance activities are likewise being conducted to support successful propagation.

We are delighted to observe that many bamboo cuttings have already produced new shoots and leaves, indicating successful establishment and growth. These encouraging developments demonstrate the dedication and hard work of the CRMS and Gubat Nursery personnel in nurturing each cutting into healthy planting stock.

Through the initiatives of the office and in support of the Kalikasan Program , bamboo propagation remains an important strategy for watershed protection, erosion control, climate adaptation, and sustainable resource development.

🎋 Every new shoot is a symbol of growth, resilience, and hope for a greener Sorsogon.
