WARSHIP WEDNESDAYS | BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15)

BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15), the second Jose Rizal-class frigate of the Philippine Navy, was commissioned on March 19, 2021. Equipped with advanced missile, torpedo, and combat systems, the frigate is capable of Anti-Air, Anti-Surface, Anti-Submarine, and Electronic Warfare operations.

The vessel represented the Philippines during Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2022 in Hawaii, securing 3rd place in the Naval Surface Fire Support Rodeo.

On April 28, 2026, BRP Antonio Luna successfully conducted a Replenishment at Sea – Liquid Transfer (RAS-L) with MV Asterix during Exercise Balikatan 41-2026 off Capones Island, demonstrating operational readiness and interoperability in multinational maritime operations.

As BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15) drew fuel from RCMS MV Asterix during the Replenishment at Sea – Liquid Transfer (RAS-L) of Exercise Balikatan 41-2026, another transfer quietly took place — the passing of vision into motion.

With one hand steering missions beyond the horizon and the other shaping the AVP himself, the Captain turned moments of duty into a living narrative of grit, precision, and purpose.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗼 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝗻

Fresh from her 5th Commissioning Anniversary, BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15) sails forward with renewed purpose—steadfast in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.

On 20 March 2026, FFG15 participated in the Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) 26-3.1 in Manila Bay and waters off Mariveles, Bataan, alongside the Armed Forces of the Philippines, United States Indo-Pacific Command, and Philippine Coast Guard—reinforcing a shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability.

Participating Philippine assets included two A-29B Super Tucano aircraft, a C-208B, and a Sokol Search and Rescue aircraft, alongside BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301), while the United States deployed USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19).

Through coordinated exercises such as communications exercise and photo maneuvers, the activity showcased precision and interoperability at sea.

Moving beyond this milestone, BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15) remains resolute—advancing maritime security, strengthening partnerships, and upholding a rules-based international order.
