𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗔 𝗟𝗔𝗝𝗔𝗚 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗨𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗦 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗟 ⛵

A total of 29 participants from different barangays and neighboring municipalities joined the first-ever Surigao City Pinta Lajag Festival 2026 held at the Surigao City Boulevard on May 30, showcasing beautifully painted non-motorized boats in a vibrant celebration of Surigaonon artistry, maritime tradition, and community spirit.

The opening day of the festival featured the much-anticipated Speed Race, where participants displayed skill, teamwork, and determination as they navigated the waters aboard their creatively designed lajags.

The activity was organized through the collaborative efforts of the Local Youth Development Office and the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, bringing together local boat enthusiasts, artists, and community members for the city’s first-ever Pinta Lajag Festival.

Present during the activity were City Councilor Arnold Go and City Administrator Atty. Lex Joshua Andrew Silvosa, City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Roselyn Merlin, and Local Youth Development Officer Atty. Krystel Buniel.

The successful staging of the events highlights Surigao City’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich maritime heritage while creating opportunities for cultural expression, tourism, and community participation.

The announcement of winners and the awarding ceremony will be held tomorrow, May 31, 2026, alongside the Fluvial Parade, marking another highlight of the celebration.

START OF THE SOUTHWEST MONSOON

Ahead of the possible onset of the rainy season, the DOST-PAGASA officially announces the start of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat over the Philippines, which is one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season.

As Habagat becomes the dominant weather system, occasional to frequent rains and thunderstorms are expected, particularly over the western sections of the country. These conditions may signal the possible onset of the rainy season in the coming days.
However, there may be rain breaks that last a few days or weeks, known as monsoon breaks.

The City Government of Surigao informs the public that the Libre Sakay Program will be temporarily suspended effective Monday, June 1, until further notice.

The temporary suspension will allow the concerned offices to conduct routine maintenance and necessary checks, as well as review current operations and make adjustments to help ensure the safety, proper condition, and continued smooth delivery of the program for commuters.

The City Government asks for the public’s understanding as updates regarding the resumption of the Libre Sakay Program will be announced through the official social media pages of the City Government of Surigao.
