A total of 29 participants from different barangays and neighboring municipalities joined the first-ever Surigao City Pinta Lajag Festival 2026 held at the Surigao City Boulevard on May 30, showcasing beautifully painted non-motorized boats in a vibrant celebration of Surigaonon artistry, maritime tradition, and community spirit.
The opening day of the festival featured the much-anticipated Speed Race, where participants displayed skill, teamwork, and determination as they navigated the waters aboard their creatively designed lajags.
The activity was organized through the collaborative efforts of the Local Youth Development Office and the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, bringing together local boat enthusiasts, artists, and community members for the cityโs first-ever Pinta Lajag Festival.
Present during the activity were City Councilor Arnold Go and City Administrator Atty. Lex Joshua Andrew Silvosa, City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Roselyn Merlin, and Local Youth Development Officer Atty. Krystel Buniel.
The successful staging of the events highlights Surigao Cityโs commitment to preserving and promoting its rich maritime heritage while creating opportunities for cultural expression, tourism, and community participation.
The announcement of winners and the awarding ceremony will be held tomorrow, May 31, 2026, alongside the Fluvial Parade, marking another highlight of the celebration.
