The Provincial Health Office (PHO) continues to provide essential health and nutrition services to the fire-affected families in Brgy. Nueva, Taft, Surigao City.

Among the services and assistance provided were:

• RUSF (Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food) for pregnant women and lactating mothers
• Distribution of toothpaste and toothbrushes
• Provision of jerry cans and Aqua Tabs for safe water
• Distribution of essential drugs and medicines
• Nutrition Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and counseling
• Vitamin A supplementation for eligible children 6 months to 12 years old

These interventions aim to protect the health and nutritional well-being of affected families, especially vulnerable women and children, during this time of crisis.

This August, the Province of Surigao del Norte proudly joins the nation in celebrating National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, with the theme:

“𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀.”

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months provides babies with the nutrients and protection they need, followed by continued breastfeeding alongside appropriate complementary foods from 6 months onward.
