The provincial government of Kalinga hosts a reception dinner to welcome Archbishop Charles J. Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Kalinga Sports Center.

In his message, Governor James Edduba honored the Catholic Church as a steadfast partner in guiding families, inspiring the youth, and strengthening communities.

Archbishop Brown said he is happy to visit Kalinga for the first time. He praised the provinceโ€™s natural beauty which he said reflects the importance of ecology as discussed by the late Pope Francis in his encyclical โ€˜Laudato siโ€™.

In recognition of the Papal Nuncioโ€™s distinguished spiritual and diplomatic leadership, the provincial government conferred upon him the honorary title โ€˜Son of Kalingaโ€™ and was given the Kalinga name โ€˜Tunggayokโ€™ by virtue of a Sangguniang Panlalawigan resolution.

Archbishop Brown is in Kalinga to preside over the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Bishop-elect Rev. Fr. Sean B. Mejia as the Apostolic Vicar of Tabuk.

Accompanying the Papal Nuncio are Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula, Caritas Philippines president Bishop Gerardo Alminaza, and Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines president Archbishop Gilbert Garcera.

Also attending are Archbishops, Bishops, Administrators, priests, and nuns of the different dioceses in the Philippines.

The welcome dinner was followed by a reception dinner at the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk Pastoral Center graced by government officials including DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and Presidential Assistant for the Cordillera Administrative Region Assistant Secretary Antonio Tabora Jr.

๐‡๐„๐‘๐„ | DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon inspected several infrastructure projects in Kalinga, including the Aliog Bridge, a road slip area in Kinama, Rizal, and the ongoing bypass road construction in Dilag, Tabuk City on Monday, June 1, 2026.

During the inspection, Dizon directed contractors and district engineers to fast-track the rehabilitation of the road slip, the completion of the bypass road and the new bridge that will replace the Aliog Bridge, which he said is already 58 years old and can no longer safely accommodate heavy vehicles.

โ€œPinapapunta tayo ni PBBM (President Ferdinand โ€œBongbongโ€ Marcos Jr.) dito, pinapaikot niya tayo lalo na ngayong magtatag-ulan na, tapos pasukan pa next week so binibilisan nating matapos ang mga proyekto,โ€ he said.

He also raised concern over the use of sandbags as temporary safety barriers at the road slip, instructing concerned officials to replace it with proper barriers to ensure public safety.

Aside from road and bridge projects, Dizon said the government is also prioritizing the construction of new classrooms.

He earlier visited Liwan West Elementary School, where he noted several issues including a makeshift comfort room, lack of water supply, and the aging school building constructed in the 1980s.

He committed to the rehabilitation and improvement of the facilities before classes resume on June 8, as well as the construction of a new school building within the year.
