ABANDONED TRUCK LEADS PNP, DENR TO SUSPECTED ₱2.5-M COPPER ORE SMUGGLING

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., uncovered a suspected mineral smuggling operation after recovering an abandoned Wing Van loaded with suspected copper-bearing mineral ore in Timoga, Barangay Buru-un, Iligan City on July 27, 2026, dealing another blow against the illegal transport of the country’s mineral resources.

The recovery resulted from a joint operation conducted by personnel of the City Intelligence Unit of the Iligan City Police Office, other operating units of the Iligan City Police Office, PNP personnel deputized by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), other PNP intelligence units, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 10–Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Iligan. Authorities inspected the abandoned blue and silver Wing Van after concerned residents noticed unidentified individuals attempting to forcibly open its rear compartment and remove its cargo.

Inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 500 sacks of suspected copper-bearing mineral ore with an estimated market value of PhP2,500,000.00. No driver or claimant was found at the scene, while verification further showed that no travel permit or other required transport documents covering the mineral shipment could be presented. Representatives from DENR 10–CENRO Iligan and the deputized MGB officer confirmed that the shipment consisted of suspected copper mineral ore. The recovered mineral ores and the abandoned vehicle were inventoried in the presence of witnesses before being turned over to DENR 10–CENRO/MGB for proper documentation, custody, and disposition pending megascopic analysis and examination by the MGB.

“The recovery of this shipment highlights the PNP’s commitment to stopping the illegal exploitation and transport of the country’s natural resources. We will relentlessly pursue those responsible and ensure that environmental laws are fully enforced through close collaboration with our partner agencies,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Ang likas na yaman ng ating bansa ay hindi dapat pagkakitaan sa ilegal na paraan. Sama-sama nating pangangalagaan ito at pananagutin ang sinumang lalabag sa batas,” he added.

The PNP’s Focused Agenda serves as its strategic framework for organizational transformation, strengthening intelligence-driven law enforcement and inter-agency collaboration against organized and emerging criminal activities. This accomplishment reflects the Agenda’s key priority on Enhanced Managing Police Operations, reinforcing efforts to curb environmental crimes and other unlawful activities that threaten the nation’s resources.

PNP REPORTS OVER 281,000 UNIFIED 911 CALLS, URGES RESPONSIBLE USE OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY HOTLINE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that the government's Unified 911 system has received a total of 281,394 calls from August 26, 2025 to July 22, 2026, underscoring the increasing use of the country's centralized emergency response platform and the continuing need for the responsible use of the national emergency hotline.

During the period, the system recorded 71,122 legitimate police emergency calls, alongside 13,261 fire-related emergencies and 31,756 requests for medical assistance, reflecting the public's growing reliance on Unified 911 for immediate help during critical situations.

Among the police-related emergencies received, public order disturbances accounted for the highest number of legitimate calls, followed by concerns involving public safety and emergency response, traffic-related incidents, and crimes against persons and property. According to the PNP, these call trends help guide police deployment and operational planning to ensure a more responsive emergency service.

The PNP also noted that 38,582 calls, or 13.71 percent of the total, were classified as prank calls. While legitimate emergency calls remained the priority, the PNP reminded the public that unnecessary calls can delay assistance to individuals facing real emergencies.

Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police, said the figures demonstrate the growing confidence of the public in the Unified 911 system and reaffirm the PNP's commitment to delivering timely assistance.

"Ang pinakamahalaga sa amin ay may taong masasandalan ang publiko sa oras ng pangangailangan. Bawat lehitimong tawag ay tinutugunan natin sa abot ng ating kakayahan, kasama ang ating partner agencies. Kaya hinihikayat din natin ang lahat na gamitin ang Unified 911 nang responsable upang mas marami pa tayong matulungan," PGen Nartatez said.

"Sa oras ng emergency, bawat segundo ay mahalaga. Kapag ang linya ay ginagamit sa hindi tamang paraan, maaaring may ibang nangangailangan ng agarang tulong ang hindi agad natin maabot. Kaya hinihiling namin sa bawat mamamayan na gamitin ang Unified 911 nang may pananagutan. Ang simpleng responsableng paggamit ng hotline ay makatutulong sa pagliligtas ng buhay," he added.

The Unified 911 program continues to strengthen the government's emergency response capability under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., providing the public with a single access point for police, fire, medical, and other emergency services. For the PNP, the system also advances the Enhanced Managing Police Operations pillar of the PNP Focused Agenda by improving emergency coordination, dispatch, and frontline police response nationwide.

The PNP assured the public that it will continue enhancing the capabilities of Unified 911 through close coordination with partner agencies, ensuring that emergency assistance remains fast, accessible, and reliable for every Filipino—consistent with its commitment to "Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman."

HIGH-PROFILE KOREAN FUGITIVE WANTED UNDER INTERPOL RED NOTICE CAPTURED

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., has arrested a high-profile South Korean fugitive wanted through an INTERPOL Red Notice, marking another significant accomplishment in the country’s campaign against transnational crime and reinforcing its commitment to international law enforcement cooperation.

The fugitive was arrested on July 15, 2026, at NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City by personnel of the Foreign Intelligence and Liaison Division (FILD), Intelligence Group (IG), together with the Fugitive Search Unit of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), and Police Station 5, Makati City Police Station, in coordination with the Korean National Police Agency and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The operation was carried out pursuant to a Bureau of Immigration Mission Order against the South Korean national, who is the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice dated December 12, 2025, following an arrest warrant issued by the Busan District Court for violation of Article 247 of the Criminal Act (Opening of a Cyber Gambling House).

Authorities established that the fugitive had fraudulently acquired a Cambodian identity bearing the same date of birth and was among the priority fugitives requested for arrest by the Korean Embassy in the Philippines. Investigation further revealed that he and two accomplices operated an illegal online gambling hub from a high-rise commercial building in Makati City’s central business district, offering hundreds of gambling games, including internet-based sports betting and baccarat, while facilitating deposits of gambling funds through accounts under their control.

“No fugitive should see the Philippines as a place to hide from justice. Through close international cooperation and intelligence-driven operations, the PNP remains committed to helping bring transnational offenders before the courts where they are accountable,” said PGEN Nartatez.

“Malaking tulong ang palitan ng impormasyon sa pagitan ng mga bansa upang matunton ang mga nagtatangkang umiwas sa pananagutan. Patuloy nating palalakasin ang ganitong pagtutulungan,” he added.

This accomplishment reflects the PNP’s Focused Agenda, a strategic framework for organizational transformation aimed at building a more responsive and capable police service. Guided by the key priority of Enhanced Managing Police Operations, the PNP continues to strengthen intelligence-driven policing and international collaboration against transnational criminal activities.

The successful arrest highlights the growing importance of international law enforcement cooperation as the Philippine National Police hosts the 44th ASEANAPOL Conference in cooperation with the ASEANAPOL Secretariat from July 22 to 26, 2026, in Pasay City. Gathering police leaders and law enforcement partners from across the region, the conference reinforces ASEANAPOL’s shared commitment to strengthening information exchange and advancing collective efforts against transnational and emerging security threats.

TRACKING DEVICE HELPS PNP RECOVER ₱2.8 MILLION HOURS AFTER ALLEGED ESTAFA, SUSPECT ARRESTED IN QUEZON CITY

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported the swift recovery of approximately ₱2.8 million in cash and the arrest of a 31-year-old male suspect following a technology-assisted follow-up operation conducted by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), only hours after an alleged estafa incident in Quezon City.

The operation stemmed from a complaint involving more than ₱3.4 million that was allegedly obtained through a fraudulent transaction. According to investigators, the suspect allegedly presented himself as a representative of an organization purportedly involved in accrediting agencies deploying overseas Filipino workers to Taiwan.

He allegedly convinced the victim that a U.S. dollar account was required as part of the accreditation process, prompting the preparation of a substantial amount of money for the supposed transaction.

Police said the victim, a 48-year-old businesswoman, withdrew ₱3 million from her bank accounts and met the suspect on July 22. During the meeting, the suspect allegedly asked to temporarily carry the victim's luxury handbag containing the cash, claiming he would exchange it for U.S. dollars from a nearby vehicle. He reportedly left the area and did not return.

The breakthrough came when investigators discovered that the victim's bag contained a tracking device. Using the location data, NCRPO operatives immediately launched a follow-up operation that led them to Barangay Payatas, Quezon City, where the suspect was arrested at around 6:00 a.m. on July 23.

Recovered during the operation were approximately ₱2.8 million in cash, the victim's luxury handbag, and other personal belongings. Police are continuing efforts to locate the remaining unrecovered property and complete the filing of appropriate charges.

The successful operation underscores the PNP's continuing efforts to enhance investigative capabilities under its Focused Agenda, particularly through Enhanced Managing Police Operations, by maximizing available technology and intelligence to accelerate crime solution and property recovery. It also supports the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen law enforcement initiatives that protect the public from fraudulent schemes and other criminal activities.

Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police, commended the NCRPO personnel for their prompt response and effective coordination that led to the immediate arrest of the suspect and the recovery of most of the victim's money.

"This operation shows how speed, coordination, and the proper use of technology can make a real difference. Sa loob lamang ng ilang oras, natunton ang suspek at naibalik ang malaking bahagi ng perang naiulat na nakuha sa biktima. Ganito ang klase ng serbisyo na nais nating maipakita sa ating mga kababayan," PGen Nartatez said.

The Chief PNP also urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals offering investment, accreditation, or financial transactions that require substantial cash payments, stressing the importance of verifying identities and coordinating with legitimate institutions before releasing money.

"Patuloy nating paalalahanan ang publiko na maging mapanuri. Kung may kahina-hinalang transaksyon o may nanlilinlang, huwag mag-atubiling lumapit sa inyong kapulisan o itawag sa ating Unified 911. Ang PNP ay mananatiling handang umaksyon nang mabilis at naaayon sa batas upang maprotektahan ang bawat mamamayan," he added.
