Palo, Leyte โ The Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VIII (DMW RO VIII) gathered thirty (30) reintegrated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for a meaningful Kumustahan session with DMW Assistant Secretary Jerome A. Alcantara, providing a safe and supportive space for them to share their stories of sacrifice, courage, resilience, and hope after working abroad.
The activity highlighted the realities and challenges experienced by OFWs overseas, including the emotional burden of being away from their families, uncertainties in foreign workplaces, and the struggles they faced while rebuilding their lives back home. Their narratives reflected not only hardship, but also strength, perseverance, and determination to start anew.
Most of the OFWs present came from various Middle Eastern countries, with four (4) having been repatriated due to the ongoing crisis. Their experiences underscored the importance of timely government intervention, strong protection mechanisms, and comprehensive reintegration programs for migrant workers and their families.
Also highlighted during the activity was a financial awareness discussion conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), focusing on the prevention of investment scams and fraudulent schemes. Through this initiative, OFWs gained practical knowledge and essential tools to help them make informed financial decisions, protect their hard-earned income, and achieve long-term financial stability as they reintegrate into their communities.
The activity reaffirmed the Department of Migrant Workersโ commitment to supporting OFWs not only during their employment abroad, but also throughout their reintegration journey toward a safer, more secure, and more empowered future.
