UP Tacloban’s Ugnayan ng Pahinungod invites all senior-standing UP Tacloban students to the Gurong Pahinungod Orientation, to be held on 12 August 2026 (3:00-5:00 PM), in the DAM Conference Room 2 of the Department of Accountancy and Management Building.

The orientation is also open to lower-year students who are interested in becoming Gurong Pahinungod volunteers.

UP Tacloban Ugnayan ng Pahinungód extended psychological first aid services to persons with disabilities and their caregivers in General Santos City following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southern Mindanao on 8 June 2026.

Implemented in partnership with the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) of General Santos City, the series of PFA sessions held on 6-7 July 2026 reached 61 participants, including persons with disabilities across different age groups, their caregivers, and PDAO personnel. Three volunteer faculty members from the UP Tacloban BA Psychology program facilitated the sessions at the PDAO Office and in the barangays of Calumpang, Fatima, and City Heights, where participants learned practical strategies for managing distress, supporting one another, and accessing appropriate psychosocial support services.

The activity forms part of UP Tacloban Ugnayan ng Pahinungód's continuing mental health and psychosocial support initiatives, which strengthen community capacities to respond to the needs of disaster-affected populations.

Pagpupugay sa ating mga natatanging Gurong Pahinungod! 🌻

We proudly congratulate our UP Tacloban alumni Floravel K. Ambas and Yul Adelfo D. Olaya for being among the first recipients of the Gawad Pangulo para sa Natatanging Gurong Pahinungod.

The Gawad Pangulo is the highest recognition conferred by the President of the University of the Philippines on members of the UP community for their outstanding achievements and contributions, and for advancing the University's mission of leadership in public service and academic excellence.

The award was presented during the Gawad Pangulo 2026 Awarding Ceremony held June 26 at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, UP Diliman, the culminating event of the University of the Philippines' 118th Founding Anniversary celebration.

In recognizing this year's awardees, UP President Angelo A. Jimenez underscored the enduring mission of the University:

“Their work reminds us that the mission of UP does not end at the classroom door, the laboratory bench, the office desk, the performance stage, or the graduation ceremony. It continues wherever knowledge is shared, wherever communities are empowered, wherever opportunities are created, and wherever hope is made possible.”

UPCAT 2027 applicants who were able to submit their Form 1 online and who were confirmed as students by their senior high school by the deadline last April 2026, will receive their test permits through the application portal by the last week of July 2026.

LOOK || The UP Tacloban Ugnayan ng Pahinungod concluded its 2026 rollout of academic enhancement sessions under the Affirmative Action Program, reaching a total of 156 student beneficiaries from public senior high schools in Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

The attendees are Grade 12 students from 19 public senior high schools in the municipalities of Cabucgayan, Culaba, Kawayan, and Naval in Biliran; Abuyog, Burauen, and Dulag in Leyte; Hinunangan, Liloan, and San Juan in Southern Leyte; Hinabangan and Catbalogan in Samar; and Can-avid, Sulat, and Taft in Eastern Samar. Volunteer faculty tutors from UP Tacloban’s Division of Humanities and Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics conducted the sessions in Language, Science, and Mathematics.

The academic enhancement sessions are part of UP Tacloban’s Dayón Kamo ha UP campaign to encourage public senior high school students across Eastern Visayas to take the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT). The campaign is implemented under the university’s Affirmative Action Program, which aims to increase the number of UPCAT qualifiers from underrepresented communities and expand access to quality higher education.

This year’s UPCAT is scheduled on 1-2 August 2026. UP Tacloban is one of eight UPCAT testing centers in Eastern Visayas.
