TWO GREEN SEA TURTLES RESCUED, TAGGED, AND RELEASED IN TACLOBAN CITY
On August 31, 2026, at around 4:20 PM, two (2) green sea turtles were accidentally captured in a fishing net by fisherman Mr. Rendel Amarilla of Rawis-Anibong, Tacloban City.
According to Mr. Amarilla, the turtles were accidentally snagged in his fishing net while fishing near Amandayehan, Basey, Samar.
The two sea turtles were voluntarily endorsed to the Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) Office today, September 1, 2026, at around 9:00 AM for proper assessment and documentation.
The turtles were identified and given the names โBeaโ and โHeaven.โ Bea measured approximately 46 cm, while Heaven measured 44 cm in length.
DENR personnel conducted an assessment and found both sea turtles to be healthy and in good condition. Necessary data were recorded and the turtles were properly tagged for monitoring and identification.
After the completion of the assessment, documentation, and tagging, both green sea turtles were safely released back into the sea.
The FLET appreciates the responsible action of Mr. Rendel Amarilla for turning over the accidentally captured sea turtles, helping protect and conserve our marine wildlife.
