TWO GREEN SEA TURTLES RESCUED, TAGGED, AND RELEASED IN TACLOBAN CITY

On August 31, 2026, at around 4:20 PM, two (2) green sea turtles were accidentally captured in a fishing net by fisherman Mr. Rendel Amarilla of Rawis-Anibong, Tacloban City.

According to Mr. Amarilla, the turtles were accidentally snagged in his fishing net while fishing near Amandayehan, Basey, Samar.

The two sea turtles were voluntarily endorsed to the Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) Office today, September 1, 2026, at around 9:00 AM for proper assessment and documentation.

The turtles were identified and given the names “Bea” and “Heaven.” Bea measured approximately 46 cm, while Heaven measured 44 cm in length.

DENR personnel conducted an assessment and found both sea turtles to be healthy and in good condition. Necessary data were recorded and the turtles were properly tagged for monitoring and identification.

After the completion of the assessment, documentation, and tagging, both green sea turtles were safely released back into the sea.

The FLET appreciates the responsible action of Mr. Rendel Amarilla for turning over the accidentally captured sea turtles, helping protect and conserve our marine wildlife.

FLET INTERVENTION: ILLEGAL FISHING OPERATION SPOTTED NEAR DIO ISLAND SANCTUARY

At approximately 5:40 PM, FLET enforcers spotted a trawl fishing boat allegedly engaged in illegal fishing activities at the back of Dio Island Sanctuary.

The FLET team immediately responded and took action. Upon noticing the presence of the enforcement team, the fishermen abandoned their illegal fishing gears and attempted to flee the area.

The FLET enforcers pursued the fleeing vessel; however, the suspect boat was significantly faster than the enforcement boat and was able to escape.

Despite the unsuccessful pursuit, the FLET team was able to retrieve the abandoned illegal fishing gears from the area. The recovered gears were brought to the FLET office for proper evidence documentation, safekeeping, and possible legal proceedings.

The FLET remains committed to protecting our municipal waters, marine sanctuaries, and fishery resources by taking immediate action against illegal fishing activities.

FLET Meeting with Barangay Committee on Agriculture

The Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) conducted a meeting with the Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Robert Yudiko of Barangay 108, Tagpuro, Tacloban City, at the Barangay Affairs Office.

The meeting was conducted to gather important information regarding the owners of the Bono-an structures located within the barangay. The structures were reported to have been built inside the designated mariculture zone.

The discussion focused on identifying the owners, gathering relevant information, and coordinating with barangay officials regarding the status and location of the structures. The information gathered will help the FLET in its continuing monitoring and enforcement activities concerning the proper use and protection of the city's mariculture zones.

The FLET appreciates the cooperation of the Barangay 108 officials and the Committee on Agriculture in supporting the proper management and protection of Tacloban City's fishery and marine resources.

FLET Strengthens Partnership with TCPO on Fishery Law Enforcement

The Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) was invited by the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) for a discussion on fishery laws, regulations, and local ordinances.

The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination and cooperation between law enforcement agencies in protecting our marine resources, promoting compliance with fishery regulations, and addressing illegal fishing activities in Tacloban City.

FLET remains committed to working hand-in-hand with our law enforcement partners to protect our fisheries and ensure the sustainable use of our marine resources.

FLET Special Operation – Clean-Up Drive

The Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) conducted a special clean-up operation at the area where the recent fish kill was reported.

FLET personnel gathered together with one common purpose: to remove the dead fish from the area and help keep the surroundings clean and safe.

The location is a place frequently visited by the people of Tacloban City, and we understand that the presence of dead and decomposing fish can cause an unpleasant smell and affect the cleanliness of the area.

Our clean-up effort did not stop at removing the dead fish. We also collected garbage and other waste materials found in the surroundings.

The FLET team is committed not only to protecting our seas and marine resources, but also to protecting and maintaining the cleanliness of our coastal surroundings.

FLET BOAT REGISTRATION INSPECTION | BRGY. TAGPURO, TACLOBAN CITY

The Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) conducted an enforcement operation in Brgy. Tagpuro, Tacloban City, focusing on the inspection and verification of boat registration and required fishing documents.

Fisherfolk and boat operators were reminded that operating a fishing boat without the required registration and permits may constitute a violation of Republic Act No. 10654 and applicable local fisheries ordinances.

FLET encourages all fisherfolk and boat owners to ensure that their boats and fishing activities are properly registered and compliant with existing fisheries laws and regulations.
