The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 8 (DOLE-RO8), through its North Leyte Field Office, led the regional celebration of the 2026 World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL) on June 12, 2026 at Robinsons North Tacloban.
Organized in collaboration with the Regional Council Against Child LaborโEastern Visayas (RCACL-EV) and the Local Government Unit of Carigara, Leyte, the event featured an Information and Service Caravan and Project Angel Tree that benefited 50 profiled child laborers from Carigara, Leyte, accompanied by their parents and guardians.
In his keynote message delivered through an audio-visual presentation, DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino underscored the importance of collective action in eliminating child labor and promoting decent work opportunities for adults.
โPinaigting natin ang kampanyang โRed Card sa Child Laborโ, na isang pandaigdigang panawagan para sa sama-samang pagkilos upang itigil ang child labor at igiit na wala itong puwang sa ating bansa at sa buong mundo,โ Secretary Tolentino said.
As part of the Project Angel Tree activities, the children received educational supplies, food packs, medicines, and other gifts from generous partners and stakeholders. The children also enjoyed recreational activities, including a magic show and interactive games that added joy and excitement to the celebration.
DOLE Regional Director Atty. Dax B. Villaruel expressed his gratitude to all partner agencies, local government units, private sector supporters, and members of the RCACL-EV for their unwavering commitment to the cause.
Present during the activity were Hon. Jimmy A. Camposano, Vice-mayor of LGU-Carigara, Mr. Jay Vincent Bibar, SHIELD Focal Person of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), representatives from member agencies of the RCACL-EV, and DOLE officials and employees.
