🌊 On September 20, 2025, millions of volunteers across the globe will come together for the 40th annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) — a powerful movement to protect our oceans, beaches, and waterways from pollution.

Launched by Ocean Conservancy in 1986, the ICC has become one of the largest environmental volunteer efforts in the world. Over the years, more than 18 million participants have helped remove over 380 million pounds of trash from coastlines and waterways worldwide.

This year’s cleanup is more than just picking up litter — it’s about raising awareness, building community, and inspiring long-term change. In the Philippines, volunteers are joining hands with millions of global citizens to restore the beauty and health of our coastlines.

Protect the MEADOWS; MITIGATE Climate Change

The seagrass ecosystem is a blue-carbon ecosystem—where carbon is captured by the world’s oceans and coastal habitats.

Blue carbon ecosystems such as seagrass meadows are up to 100 times faster and more permanent at storing atmospheric carbon, thereby mitigating climate change. In fact, they can hold 10 times more carbon per unit area than other ecosystems.

World Seagrass Day serves as our reminder to stand up for these underwater powerhouses and protect them before the tide turns. With the Philippines boasting an extensive coastline, it is home to 18 seagrass species—about a third of all the seagrass species on the entire planet.
